Job Summary
The Operating Room Surgical Aide works as an integral part of the healthcare team, responsible for maintaining a safe environment in which quality patient care is delivered. Surgical Aide is responsible for maintaining inventory levels of specified stock items in the Operating Room, and the preparation of stretchers and oxygen tanks to see that both are ready and available when needed for patient transport. Prioritization of patient care tasks at hand and communication with health care team members is an important factor in performing the duties of this role. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Understands the importance and practice of Isolation/Precautions in patient care. •Maintains inventory level of specified stock items within the Operating Room according to established guidelines. •Responsible for assisting nursing staff in the rooms as needed and directed (i.e. turning, moving anesthetized patients, holding of extremities for surgical prep, gathering of equipment, etc.). •Performs between-case cleaning in order to minimize turnaround between surgical procedures. •Checks status of stretchers to assure they are ready and available when needed for patient transport. Cleans according to established policy and procedure. •Responsible for performing the Balancing of the Total Care Bed for specific patient populations prior to patient use. •Checks status of oxygen tanks on stretchers to assure O2 is always available for patient transport. •Maintains inventory of medical gases for patient care, i.e. oxygen, laser mixture, nitrogen, compressed air. •Delivery of specimens and blood products to the Laboratory or Radiology, as directed by nursing personnel. •Cleans Operating Room equipment at end of surgical procedures, including surgical table, mayo stands, ring stands, instrument tables, kick buckets and IV poles, according to established infection control policies and procedures, i.e. Isolation/Precautions. •Runs errands as needed and directed by registered professional nurse and/or charge nurse, understanding the importance of efficiency in performing tasks. •Collaborates with other members of the surgical team to see that each Operating Room is clean and all equipment is in place. •Performs shave prep on surgical patient as directed, according to established guidelines, policy and procedure. •Determines specific waste type, i.e. hazardous vs. regular, for proper disposal of O.R. trash. •Maintains order and cleanliness in CSR2 Soiled room where linen, trash, and infectious waste are stored prior to disposal via CSR/Environmental Services. •Communicates pertinent information with regard to patient care concerns to appropriate personnel. •Responsible for application of the principles of asepsis to maintain integrity of the sterile field. •Assists and collaborates with the Circulating nurse and Surgical Technologist to set up for surgical procedures with proper instrumentation, equipment and supplies. •Assists in the care, cleaning and maintenance of all general and specialty instruments, equipment and supplies according to established guidelines, policies and procedures. •Maintains confidentiality of information related to individual patients and patient care units.

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under indirect supervision of the Chief Technologist, the incumbent performs standard electroencephalographic (EEG) examinations (includes routine awake and sleep EEGs, portable EEGs and long term monitoring bedside EEGs) on both outpatients and inpatients. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Greets patients and explains the examination procedures to the patient and/or family. May perform the tests in the laboratory, at the patient bedside, in an intensive care unit or in the emergency room.
Selects predetermined standard and special electrode combinations (montages) made necessary by the case under study. May need to add additional electrodes as clinically indicated.
Measures patient's head using the international 10-20 system prior to placement of monitoring equipment. Operates the EEG equipment to record EEG procedures.
Monitors recording as it is in progress, makes pertinent notations of the clinical state of the patient and defines abnormal from normal activity based on the patient's history and clinical condition.
Obtains standard recordings, recognizes artifacts and takes appropriate steps to eliminate them. Uses activating procedures such as hyperventilation, photic stimulation and sleep.
Abstracts relevant information from the patient's clinical record and obtains additional information from a patient interview. Writes a technical report with an impression of the data to aid in the physician's interpretation.
Accurately enters patient data into a reporting system computer terminal and retrieves and reviews previous tests/recordings as needed for comparison. Stores data appropriately.
Maintains, troubleshoots, cleans and performs minor repairs on the EEG equipment; reports need for major repairs to supervisor.
Helps maintain the laboratory inventory. Keeps laboratory in a neat and orderly fashion.
Attends departmental staff and in-service meetings as required.
Follows all established departmental policies and procedures. Maintains patient safety and patient confidentiality at all times.
Must be available to work on-call, off shift and weekends.

We are looking for a high-energy, driven, customer-service focused Senior Grant Administrator/Consultant to join the BWH Department of Medicine team. The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest recipient of sponsored funding of any Harvard Medical School department and continues to break new ground in biomedical research. The department's research community consists of more than 400 research faculty and more than 400 research fellows. Currently, the Department averages $450MM per year in total research expenditures and approximately 1,800 sponsored research proposals per year.
Reporting to and working closely with the Research Administrative Manager, the Senior Grant Administrator/Consultant will provide expert research administration support to the 21 divisions within the Department of Medicine (DOM). As a consultant, he/she will play a key role in the coordination of research activities including special projects, oversight of complex programs or filling short-term vacancies. The Senior Grant Administrator/Consultant will provide exceptional customer service to the division's investigators and collaborators. The individual may be the primary point of contact for Principal Investigators and Department Administrators or may work alongside other grant administrator/consultants.
The consulting position is assignment-based and the individual may be engaged in multiple projects in multiple divisions simultaneously. When not engaged in research management activities within the divisions, the Grant Administrator will provide support for DOM central administration activities as detailed below.
Qualifications
Consultation with DOM Divisions:
1. Oversee all budgetary and administrative aspects of the grant application progress, including development of study budgets for sponsored research and associated funds in accordance with sponsor fiscal policies and procedures as well as revisions of post-award budgets as needed
2. Serve as primary contact for collaborating sites regarding development of budgets and work with Partners Research Management to ensure that subcontract awards are processed in a timely manner
3. Monitor project expenditures, including monthly assessments of fund activity thereby preventing overruns; make recommendations of actions as necessary; prepare and maintain financial reports on an ongoing basis

The cardiac cath lab physician assistant is a licensed provider who will be responsible for all aspects of pre, intra, and post procedure care of interventional cardiology patients. This includes, but is not limited to, pre-procedure assessment, informed consent, sedation assessment, assisting with procedures, post-procedure management, and discharge education. The PA will first assist in all types of procedures performed in the cardiac cath lab and will be comfortable with equipment required for the procedures. The PA will act as the responding clinician for patients on the PA Cath Service with responsibilities including admission H&P, daily rounds, progress notes, and discharge summaries. The PA must have knowledge of the most common diagnoses admitted to the Interventional Cardiology service, demonstrate competency to effectively diagnose, formulate an appropriate treatment plan, and implement the plan in conjunction with the attending physician. The physician assistant will be responsible for completing and maintaining procedural sedation training annually and completing fluoroscopic training and certification within 18 months of hire. While the PA can expect a relatively predictable work schedule, schedule variations may occur to cover clinical needs as they become apparent to the department. The position will include weekend and holiday coverage planned in advance. PA may be asked to take call, pick up additional shifts, work variable hours, and/or provide backup coverage as needed.
