Ability to react calmly in emergency situations. Computer skills helpful. Physical/Cognitive Demands: Sitting, standing for extensive periods of time, bending, lifting and moving items weighing 75 - 100 pounds intermittently throughout the day. May be subject to frequent interruptions and requires working under stressful conditions and working irregular hours (days, evenings or nights, weekends and holidays) Be able to perform all designated skills and demonstrate proper use of equipment within the department. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Working Conditions/Equipment: Potential exposure to infectious diseases and body fluids requiring the use of Standard Precautions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Respond to hospital and provide medical care in accordance with standing protocols as well as patient specific written orders while en route to a higher level of care. Follow guidelines that you learned in training and that you received from on-the-job instruction. Do an on-the-spot assessment of the patient's condition and follow proper protocols and written orders appropriately. Use wheeled stretcher and transfer devices to safety move patient to and from ambulance Create a patient care report, documenting the medical care given to the patient while under your direct care Properly handle, dispose and document medication administration Replace used supplies and check or clean equipment after use Perform equipment QC to ensure proper operation Operate within HCMH approved policy and procedures and the Iowa Scope of Practice Physical & Mental Requirements: Risk of exposure to contagious diseases and bodily fluids and psychologically unstable people.
