Summary/Objective
The DirectSupportProfessional is responsible for the safety, care, and support of adults with developmental disabilities (“residents”). Duties include supporting residents with goals established in their person-centered plan (PCP), community inclusion for the resident, documenting events and activities that occur throughout the day with the resident using several State of Maine and proprietary forms, and in some instances personal care.
Essential Responsibilities
The DirectSupportProfessional (DSP) will support residents at home and in the community with activities of daily living (ADL).
DSPs are required to know each resident's goals and work actively to achieve or work towards those goals on a regular basis. This includes actively seeking out opportunities and providing suggestions for resident activities that would support the goals both in the residence and in the community.
Assure residents are given the opportunity and encouraged to access the community daily.
Provide personal care as needed, including bathing, helping to use the bathroom, changing, etc.
Attend meetings with the resident's team when asked to provide insight on resident care.
Be actively engaged with and attentive to the resident throughout the entire shift. In the event the resident is sleeping, time should be spent on other responsibilities listed.
Transportation of residents in the DSP's personal vehicle is required.
DSP staff must complete daily documentation prior to leaving each shift, documentation must contain supports staff provided to the member, what goals were worked on during each shift and how each member responds to the supports.
DSP staff will complete a report for all members when behavior is observed regarding out of baseline behaviors, injury, aggression, medication procedures not followed. Reportable events should be communicated immediately after the incident occurs and must be reported prior to leaving shift per state of Maine regulations.
DSPs will provide support to members for all medical appointments, from proper documentation, transportation, medication ordering.
DSPs will follow all treatment plans (Positive support plan, behavioral management plan, etc.) while at home and in the community.
DSPs must be able to pass the State of Maine CRMA curriculum in order to pass member medications. :
DSP staff must be able to account for all receipts, required for all purchases using agency funds
DSP will ensure the home is safe and will report all damages and house maintenance issues immediately
DSPs will conduct fire drills with residents monthly.
DSP staff will have the ability to communicate with residents, providers, guardians and co-workers about the members' support needs and overall health and well-being for all that is served.
DSPs staff will accurately keep track of all hours by clocking in and out at the beginning and ending of each shift. Failure to do so may result inaccurate or untimely pay and will lead to disciplinary action
Attendance at residence meetings (twice a month) is mandatory and may differ from your regularly scheduled shifts.
DSPs are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. The employee handbook gives guidance to several topics regarding the way you should present yourself and act as a DSP at Dirigo SupportProfessionals including dress code, communication expectations, and personal use of electronics.
DSPs are expected to participate in and attend scheduled trainings that Dirigo SupportProfessionals may put on to review, revise, or improve knowledge necessary to be an effective DSP and/or employee at Dirigo SupportProfessionals.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to stand and walk and have the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 50 pounds. Consumer Care
The DirectSupportProfessional (DSP) will support consumers at home and in the community with activities of daily living (ADL). DSPs need to communicate with their supervisors if they are going into the community and immediately notify the Program Supervisor or Team Lead if there is a change in plans. Every change of plan should be approved by the Program Supervisor or Team Lead. Assure consumers access the community daily. Documentation
Therap documentation done every hour. Behavioral/ Minor incident documentation. All daily logs must be completed fully for the shift the DSP worked. Daily reports on behaviors and minor incidents that occurred must be documented and filed in the electronic records. All Reportable Events should be communicated immediately within the hour of their occurrence to the Program Supervisor or Team Lead.
Medications and Medical
DSPs will ensure consumers are on time for all medical appointments. DSPs will verify with Program Supervisors or Team Leads that all Mainecare funded appointments are entered into Therap beforehand. A Physician order form must be filled out for all appointments and filed appropriately in the medication book. DSPs will follow all treatment plans (Positive support plan, behavioral management plan, etc) while at home and in the community.
Program Administration
Money Management. Activity money should only be spent on activities for the consumer. No activity money should be spent for the benefit of the DSP. Receipts are required for all uses of activity money and should be turned into the Program Supervisor. Cleanliness. The consumers' home (including consumers' rooms) should be cleaned every day, dishes should be washed after every meal, consumers should always have clean, appropriate clothing available. Assure at all times that there is a great environment for your consumer. Report all damages and house maintenance issues immediately to the Program Supervisor or Team Lead. Fire Drills. DSPs will help conduct fire drills with consumers, twice a month. Mileage reimbursement staff paperwork. All mileage reimbursement requests for the month are due no later than the first Monday of the following month. Failure to do so may result in not being reimbursed for mileage.
Communication
Communicate with your consumers and co-workers every day. Open and honest professional communication is the key to building trust and good teamwork.
Timekeeping
It is the DSPs responsibility to accurately keep track of all hours worked in Paycor.

Position Summary
The Shelter SupportProfessional provides compassionate, non-judgmental support to individuals with complex needs, including those experiencing mental health challenges, substance use, housing instability, or a history of trauma-within a low-barrier care environment. This role ensures safety, promotes stability, and supports both psychosocial and basic health needs of guests.

Key Responsibilities & Shelter Duties
Client Intake & Assessment Support
Assist with initial screening, registration, and risk assessment to identify acute needs (e.g., mental health, substance use, medical concerns).
Observe and report physical, behavioral, or emotional changes in daily shift notes.
Support the implementation of individualized care plans as directed by care management staff.
Observation & Monitoring
Conduct continuous or intermittent observation of clients, particularly those at risk of self-harm, substance relapse, or medical decompensation.
Maintain awareness of signs of acute distress (e.g., withdrawal, overdose, psychiatric crisis) and respond appropriately.
Monitor adherence to safety and hygiene standards to ensure a clean and secure environment.
Crisis Intervention & De-escalation
Apply trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and de-escalation techniques to manage conflict or distressed behavior.
Follow standardized procedures for responding to medical, psychiatric, or substance-related emergencies.
Environmental Safety & Infection Control
Maintain hygienic client areas through regular cleaning, sanitation, laundry, and proper disposal of biohazardous materials.
Ensure all safety equipment (first aid kits, fire extinguishers, PPE) is functional and accessible.
Documentation & Reporting
Accurately record client interactions, observations, incidents, and health status in shift documentation.
Communicate relevant updates to the multidisciplinary team, including Shelter and Care Management staff.
Client Advocacy & Referral
Assist clients in accessing social, behavioral health, medical, and housing resources.
Encourage client engagement with support services and case management.
Team Collaboration & Professional Development
Participate in clinical supervision and staff meetings.
Maintain competency in all required trainings (e.g., MANDT, First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens).
Required Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (additional behavioral health or peer support certification preferred).
Experience working with individuals facing mental health, substance use, or homelessness challenges.
Strong observational and situational awareness skills.
Familiarity with or willingness to learn trauma-informed and harm-reduction care practices.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Emotional resilience and ability to maintain professional boundaries in high-stress environments.
Physical ability to perform job duties (standing, lifting, cleaning, etc.).
