OBJECTIVES/PURPOSE
The Medical Support Specialist determines donor eligibility to donate plasma, management of donor adverse events, review of laboratory test results, donor notification of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist works under the direct supervision of the Center Manager (or Assistant Manager as applicable) for operational guidance and under the supervision of the Center Physician for medical issues. Ideally, the Medical Support Specialist will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry and/or a manufacturing environment. The Medical Support Specialist follows guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs and provides center level support of environmental,
health and safety (EHS).
ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Donor Eligibility (85%)
* Determine donor eligibility accurately and in a timely manner, to include, proper management of informed consent, AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview and acceptance requirements, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) as required.
* Evaluate and manage donor reaction(s), which occurs at the facility as outlined in the SOPs. Follow applicable SOPs for medicalemergencies including the execution of Center Physician's standing orders and donor transport to emergency care facilities.
* Manage donor deferral; reviews test results and notify donors of unsuitable test results per applicable SOPs.
* Initiation and investigation of Post Donation Information (PDI).
* Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs (as applicable) when in need of providing unacceptable findings to donors, problem solving, or guidance concerning medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
* Demonstrate continued competency in the performance of job responsibilities and complete periodic assessment with the Center Physician per applicable SOPs.
* Assist the EHS program as required per SOPs or as requested by the EHS Manager (5%)
* Conduct pre-placement evaluation of new hires to include assessment of medical history questionnaire.
* Support the Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
* Maintain applicable employee medical records.
* Member of EHS site committee and assist in training of employees, as required.
* Manage employee incidents and determine whether further evaluation is required by occupational health/ER. Refer to EHS guidance regarding employee incidents.
* Administer first aid to employees as needed.
* Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS.
* Supports investigations associated with pandemic threats within local community as indicated by EHS or Medical Affairs.
* May perform all required duties in the area of Medical History (including, but not limited to): (10%)
* Greet donors as they enter and exit the donor floor.
* Take and record donor pulse, blood pressure, and temperature measures and monitor electronic donor questionnaire system.
* Perform finger stick, test sample, and record other donor measures to include hematocrit, total protein and weight.
Enter donor information into the Donor Information System (DIS).

Receives direct supervision from the Fire Captain.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This is not a promotable position. To be classified as a Firefighter II the employee must obtain and maintain listed certifications listed below.
Exchanges information with on-coming and off-going shifts. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Perform firefighting activities including; driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, performing fire combat, containment and extinguishment tasks. Perform emergency aid activities including; rescue, administering emergencymedical aid and providing other assistance as required. Participates in fire drills, attends classes in firefighting, rescue emergencymedical, hazardous materials, and related subjects. Operates radio and other communication equipment. Participates in the inspection of buildings, hydrants, and other structures in fire prevention programs. Maintains fire equipment, apparatus and facilities. Performs minor repairs to departmental equipment. Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment; cleans and washes walls and floors; cares for grounds around station; makes minor repairs; washes, hangs and dries hose; washes, cleans, polishes, maintains and tests apparatus and equipment. Performs salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, sweeping water, and removing debris.
Participates in training to develop and maintain certifications, skills, and knowledge as it relates to fire prevention, suppression, rescue and EMS care and skills. Perform other duties as assigned.
Employees may not perform the duties of a higher classification without the assignment being designated in writing and approved by the Deputy Chief of Operations, the Fire Chief or City Manager. Pay for stepping up will be provided in accordance with Texas Local Government Code 141.033(b).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must possess a valid Texas Driver's Class B Driver's License without record of suspension or revocation in any State by date of hire.
Certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a Basic Structural Firefighter.
Certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a Driver Operator-Pumper.
Certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a Paramedic.
Certification of attendance to Courage to Be Safe and Traffic Incident Management Program training required within 6 months of employment.
Must not have any felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories.
Must be able to proficiently read and write the English language.
Must have successfully completed the new hire orientation period for Fire Fighter I with the City of Copperas Cove or be hired with all qualifications of a Firefighter II.
External candidates must have two (2) years of verifiable, paid, full-time firefighting experience.
Must meet City of Copperas Cove's response time requirements.
Must have Certification in NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, & 800.
PREFERRED AND STEP-UP REQUIREMENTS:
Certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as an Intermediate Structural Firefighter or higher.
Certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a Fire Instructor I.
Certified by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection as a Fire Officer I.
Texas Commission on Fire Protection Driver Operator-Pumper and Aerial Certification.
Must be certified in NIMS ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, & 800 and comply with future NIMS requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of City geography;
Knowledge of local and state government operations, policies, rules and laws;
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite software application including Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc. Must be able to construct and modify documents including formulas in spreadsheets;
Skills to develop employees to ensure the necessary skills and abilities exist for growth;
Ability to cooperate as part of a team and to receive direction from crew leaders during stressful as well as routine situations and maintain a calm, mature composure, emotional self-control and rational cognitive/decision-making;
Ability to work in dangerous situations or hazardous environments that are personally offensive (cases of child abuse, child molestation, sexual assault, extreme trauma, or death, etc.) or which involve considerable stress, danger, personal risk, violence and hostility;
Ability to assess emergency situations calmly and to act safely, quickly, and appropriately in a variety of rescue/emergency encounters.
Ability to make standard calculations necessary for safety, training, and various rescue situations;
Ability to meet departmental physical standards;
Ability to quickly make decisions in emergency situations based upon limited facts available, often within the first few minutes of an incident;
Ability to work long hours in both emergency and routine assignments as part of an assigned crew of diverse employees;
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with employees, other governmental agency representatives, city officials and the general public in a variety of situations.
Selection Guidelines:
Must have the ability to meet department's physical standards. Must be able to meet all legal requirements necessary maintain current and future certifications by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and the Texas Department of State Health Services.
Tools and Equipment Used:
Emergencymedical aid unit, fire apparatus, fleet vehicles, fire pumps, hoses, and other standard firefighting equipment, safety equipment, ladders, first aid equipment, radio, pager, personal computer including word processing software, phone, copy/fax machine, cameras, other specialized tools and equipment as required.

SUMMARY: Allegiance Mobile Health is looking for a compassionate and reliable EMT-Basic to provide essential pre-hospital care and emergencymedical assistance. The EMT-B will respond to 911 calls, assess patient conditions, perform basic life support procedures, and assist in patient transport and transfer. This role requires strong communication, a calm demeanor under pressure, and a commitment to patient care.
Starting pay begins at $14/hr and is based on your DSHS certification level and years of experience. Your starting pay may be higher based on these factors.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Responsibilities include, but not limited to)
Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls 24 hours per day, drives a variety of emergency vehicles in all road conditions including inclement weather, dense traffic and rural off-road settings.
Reads map books and follows written and verbal directions in order to respond in an efficient and safe manner.
Follows all departmental, local and state driving laws, policies and procedures.
Uses a variety of communication equipment and appropriately communicates verbally to dispatchers, EMS crews, first responders and other organizations according to departmental policies and procedures.
Maintains vehicles and equipment in a constant state of readiness and cleanliness.
Completes daily vehicle and supply checklists and assists with vehicle re-supply, vehicle and equipment decontamination and general readiness-related tasks.
Immediately reports, in writing, any discrepancies with vehicles, supplies or equipment and their state of readiness.
Provides direct patient care per Medical Director's authorization and protocols.
Demonstrates clinical competency in all patient care related instances.
Demonstrates physical competencies sufficient to allow him/her to lift, carry, transport and extricate patients in all settings, in some cases without assistance.
Interacts with multiple outside agencies such as Police Departments, Fire Departments and First Responder Organizations. Provides satisfactory customer service and projects professionalism in all contacts.
Successfully and accurately completes patient care reports, billing information and all other associated documentation in a timely manner.
Works under physically and psychologically taxing conditions to include inclement weather, temperature extremes, hazardous environments, loud noises and high-stress situations. High potential for exposure to blood-borne pathogens, dangerous chemicals, sharp objects and fall/trip hazards.
Performs other duties as assigned to include general housekeeping chores and special projects.
Must successfully pass departmental skills evaluation and fully complete NEOP process before staffing a truck.
Adhere to company policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lift, carry, balance and push up to 125 pounds (250 pounds with assistance).
Demonstrate flexibility and physical coordination by bending from the waist and touching toes, squat with legs parallel to the ground and kneeling with both knees firmly on the ground.
Climb 20 sets of stairs without rest within 60 seconds.
Demonstrate fine manual dexterity by performing job related clinical skills (starting IV's, intubating, etc.).
Have correctable vision adequate to read street signs, see in low light and read small print.
PSYCHOLOGICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Use good judgment and remain calm in high-stress situations.
Maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity.
Have good interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Function under situations of extreme fatigue due to little or no rest, extreme temperatures and inclement weather conditions.
