Description:
The SPT I is responsible for general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. This position requires a data entry background.
Functions performed may include but are not limited to A-station, presort, pickup and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation and aliquoting.
All functions must be performed with confidence, accuracy and in a timely manner. Job is complex and requires that employee have good organization skills and is able to learn and understand specimen types related to test(s) ordered by client.
The SPT I must have to the ability learn and understand the compliance regulations related to test ordering which may change on a daily basis.
This position is critical to quality for customer satisfaction.
Additionally, since many changes do occur from day to day, great flexibility on the part of the SPT I is required.
The SPT I will be exposed to many different demands made by the customer.
Majority of SPT I work on the nightshift but based on staffing needs, weekends, holidays, on call and overtime availability is a requirement.
Department is a production environment, with emphasis on productivity/quality standards and departmental completion times.
Position requires data background with abilities to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes/hour.
Works in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.

Duties and Responsibilities
Incumbent provides emergency medical care in accordance with innovative and data driven protocols, which may include stabilizing critically ill or injured patients through the application of advanced life support procedures, such as intubation, peripheral intravenous insertion, defibrillation, and administration of pharmacological agents. The incumbent will drive a medic unit to a specific address or location of an emergency, choosing the most direct and expeditious route in a timely and safe manner. The incumbent will maintain basic and advanced life support care during transportation to the appropriate hospital emergency department. The incumbent will accurately report, verbally and in writing, observations, interventions, and emergency care given to the patient at the scene and in transit to the emergency department for record keeping and diagnostic purposes. The incumbent may manage emotionally disturbed, alcohol and drug intoxicated, and unruly patients.
Incumbent performs as a firefighter, responding to all conditions and life-hazards, both known and unknown, with a minimal response time. Upon arrival at an emergency incident, the incumbent will relay conditions, life-hazards, and exposures to commanding officers. As a Firefighter Paramedic the incumbent will examine structures for signs of fire extension or other dangers and determine the safest evacuation route for occupants. The incumbent will make forcible entries, make openings for ventilation, perform overhaul operations, deploy hose lines, and operate hydrant systems. Firefighter Paramedics drive and operate fire suppression apparatus of significant complexity, including pumps, aerial ladder trucks, and rescue squads. Firefighter Paramedics may extricate injured and/or entrapped patients by safely employing rescue techniques, which include various extrication devices. Additionally, they will use power tools, saws, and ventilation fans.
Qualifications and Education
Candidates must successfully pass and complete the DC Fire and EMS Department's Recruit Training Course and pass all probationary requirements. Candidates will demonstrate competence providing pre-hospital emergency care through various mechanisms, including field training.

Provides information to senior officials as requested. Conducts follow-up inquiries to track action being taken within the hospital.

Conducts daily pager tests at required intervals, ensuring proper response times. In the event a pager is not functional, will coordinate with the duty provider and Information Technology Department to repair or replace telecommunication equipment.
Maintains an activity log of all significant daily events, emergencies, processes, or notifications received through the communication center. Maintains an electronic daily activity log of all activities according to locally established protocols. Takes necessary measures to ensure information contained in each data entry is accurate and provides a clear picture of emergency and daily activities of the dispatch center.
Maintains maps, checklists, online data logs, and charts. Maintains checklists and is fully proficient in the use of these checklists during emergency operations.
Provides input to the supervisor regarding maintenance and updating of checklists. Maintains on and off base maps and other visual aids frequently utilized as quick information references for responding emergency personnel.
Operates and maintains telephones, radios, automated data processing equipment, printers, and other devices installed in the dispatch center. Monitors radio and telephone communications with police, fire, and hospital units during emergencies. Refers non-emergency callers to appropriate agencies as needed.

Job Description
Under the supervision of the Butler Medical Transport/ Best Care Ambulance Leadership team the EMT is an integral part of the EMS team, providing support to the ALS partner and a superior transport experience to the communities we serve. The EMT will respond to emergent and nonemergent medical transports and are responsible for assessing patients' conditions, administering basic life support, and transporting patients to medical facilities for further treatment. EMTs are an integral part of the healthcare system, provide critical care during emergencies and making a significant impact on patient‘s lives. The role of the EMT demands quick thinking, compassion, and the ability to work as part of a team to deliver timely and effective pre-hospital care.
The Role and Responsibilities of the EMT include:
Provide excellent patient care within the scope of practice of an EMT
Provide safe transport of the patient and crew
Respond to emergent and non-emergent transports
Provides effective communication with patients, dispatch, crews, family members, and facility staff
Ability operation communication devices; portable radio, cell phone, computer tablet
Completion of patient contact reports prior to shift completion
Ensure maintenance of vehicles and equipment for transport readiness
Maintain cleanliness of station
Maintain certifications with timely completion of refresher courses and CMEs
Remain current on all state protocols, policies, and/or procedures
Represent BMT/BCA at community events as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Graduation From High School or equivalent
Must be at least 19 years of old at time of hire for insurance purposes
Successful completion of NREMT certification

Valid driver's license
Ability to drive company vehicles with a clean driving record

Emergency medical technician job in Washington, DC
Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) contracts to provide Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to venues and facilities within Washington DC. The purpose of this position is to help fulfill these contracts. The position will provide Basic Life Support within the EMT scope of practice to include medical evaluation, treatment, stabilization, and transfer of care to the sick and injured. Further, he/she will respond to emergency medical situations involving all types of emergencies, potential loss of life or bodily injury; maintain (self or scene) control, manages and direct patient care at the scene of a pre-hospital emergency; provides training and instruction to lesser trained personnel; performs other duties as required. The position is expected to perform all skills required of an American Heart Association-certified healthcare CPR provider.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.
* Maintains a state of readiness to respond by ensuring equipment, tools, and protective equipment are in a response-ready condition.
* Maintains NREMT, DC Department of Health EMT, and AHA/ASHE CPR healthcare provider certifications and any other deemed necessary to be successful
* Ability to physically respond to a medical emergency throughout an area and perform work that may involve strenuous physical tasks, including during hazardous conditions and/or inclement weather.
* Ability to move 100 pounds to a height of 4 feet and carry 100 pounds, a minimum of 6 feet. Ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and walk on uneven surfaces. Has the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
* Cooperates and communicates well with others including employees, customers, patients, emergency medical services, police departments, fire departments, etc.
* Completes daily shift duties, Care reports, pay sheets, read E-mail, etc.
* Efficiently operates computer equipment and software programs used.
* Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Demonstrate good judgment and good critical thinking skills
* Ability to use personal protective equipment properly including the ability to wear respiratory protection equipment.

Experience
* Current and valid nationally recognized certification as an EMT

* A minimum of 1 year of EMT experience
Physical Requirements
* Stand, reach, and walk for long periods of time in a field setting.
* Must be able to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull up to 100 lbs. as part of the role.
* Regularly exposed to healthcare settings that may require personal protective equipment.

Assists mid-level providers and physicians with collecting, labeling and transporting irretrievable specimens. Applies orthopedic splinting devices.
Collects patient specimens following department/facility policies and procedures.
Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies to optimize delivery of patient care and treatment.
Assists with patient transport for testing, admission/discharge, interfacility and aeromedical (per policy of Operating Unit).
Performs 12 lead ECG and places patients on continuous cardiac monitoring.
Performs patient phlebotomy following department/facility policies and procedures.
Provides wound care according to department clinical practice standards and acts as a resource to physicians and nurses to assist with optimum care.
