The Senior Engineering Manager will be responsible for planning, designing, implementing, and managing production systems across our cloud computing / data center manufacturing facilities that assure performance, reliability, maintainability, schedule adherence and cost control within the production sites. The Sr Engineering Manager will adopt as its goals profitability, effectiveness, adaptability, responsiveness, quality, and the continuous improvement of rack, server, and data center products and services throughout their life cycles.
This role also supports business development efforts with current and/or future customers and development or implementation of cloud computing / data center engineering strategies.
This is an on site, site level, hands on role in Salisbury, NC
This role may require extensive travel to other locations during the first 36 months for training, team integration, and operational alignment.
What will you do?
Manages ME (manufacturing engineering) and IE (industrial engineering) activities with focus on key operational metrics for our cloud computing / data center manufacturing operations.
Manufacturing System Development: Design and develop manufacturing systems and procedures for cloud computing manufacturing processes. This includes material storage, material flow, assembly of hardware components or devices into racks and servers (such as motherboards, memory, CPU, storage (SSD, HDD, NVMe) and PCIE devices).
Manufacturing Sustaining: Lead the engineering of manufacturing processes for (L5 thru L9) assembly and server (L10) and rack (L11) level test and infrastructure deployment at our production facilities, including the implementation of system configuration changes.
Manufacturing Infrastructure Expansions: Lead the sites manufacturing infrastructure, layout, and flow for server and rack assembly, liquid cooling, and testing operations as well as future expansions planning, deployments, and assembly of other data center hardware / large factor assembly.
Develop line layouts, process flow charts, simulation models, layouts, processes, line balancing, staffing models, and manufacturing quotes for existing operations, continuous improvement, and new business opportunities
Reduces manufacturing cost by optimizing processes and systems, e.g., modification of responsibilities or consolidation of tasks, elimination of non-value-added processes, and use of Best Practices.
Introduces new advanced manufacturing processes including automation and along transferred capabilities from new customers into the Jabil sustaining manufacturing organization.
Collects global manufacturing engineering feedback and identifies issues to be addressed by ME, IE, or other global functions.
Defines, develops, and implements ME and IE strategies which support overall objectives, business development and Jabils strategic directions.
Executes ME and IE activities in alignment with Jabil strategies, organizational goals and technology roadmap
Demonstrates a good understanding of LEAN Six Sigma and actively promotes the core principles throughout the organization
Creates training tools, documents and procedures for global baseline ME and IE competency training at sites.
Hire, Coach, mentor and train site ME and IE resources
Support recruiting and retention of ME and IE talent
Ensure ME and IE succession plans are developed and maintained
Develops and administers training programs from engineering Subject Matter Experts (SME).
Provides tactical support to resolve critical technical issues as required.

Education:

This position manages projects and programs that involve civil, mechanical, structural, and electrical engineering and construction. Work may include but not be limited to paving (concrete and asphalt) of state or city-maintained roadways, taxiways, runways, shoulders, apron areas, airfield electrical improvements and demo, utilities and utility relocations, fuel systems, etc. This work may also include vertical construction such as aircraft hangars, terminal building construction and rehab, concourses etc.
Successful delivery of construction projects on-time and within budget; experience in change management and compliance with applicable laws, rules, ordinances, and regulations; experience in all construction project phase services including pre-design, design/pre-bid, bid, pre-construction, construction, and post-construction as well as experience managing staff augmentation, contracts, and experience in government contract administration.

Ensures development activities are conducted in compliance with federal regulations, state and local requirements to maintain high standards of safety and security in all aspects of operation.
Conducts airport studies, research and surveys, analyzes and interprets records and reports using technological advances to maximize results.

Prepares and reviews Request for City Council Actions. Attends City Council Meetings in the absence of the Chief Infrastructure Officer.

Directs and reviews requests for proposals; negotiates contractual terms of projects between the consultants and the City; directs the preparation of monthly estimates of construction completed; prepares and approves expenditures from the capital and operating design and construction budgets; reviews estimates and reports prior to authorizing payments; makes final decisions regarding contract disputes; negotiates and resolves payment claims with contractors; ensures that contractors are advised of schedules required to minimize impact on operations.
Directs and participates in pre-construction and post-construction meetings with consultants, contractors and other parties participating in the construction of airport facilities; represents the department at conferences, hearings, and meetings pertaining to engineering and construction projects; participates in various professional community affairs to encourage teaming and partnership opportunities with the private sector.
Monitors changes in security regulations and technological updates that may affect operations; develops and/or modifies policies for design and construction based on sound engineering practices; interprets sections of plans and specifications that may present construction problems and provides recommendations; directs, through subordinate managers, the inspection and testing of civil, mechanical, electrical and structural elements of airport capital improvement projects; ensures that all division engineering projects conform to time schedules, cost estimates and airport construction standards; directs staff to administer changes in plans to compensate for unforeseen field conditions that do not affect engineering or project design integrity; administers the preparation and signs all change orders for modifications to construction project plans; issues stop orders if major design changes must be made by design engineers or consultants; notifies the FAA of work changes to ensure continued funding participation.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
Master's degree plus five years of experience, or bachelor's degree plus seven years of experience required. Major coursework should have included an aviation-related field, business or public administration, engineering, or related field. Experience must be related to airport engineering, planning, and construction, and include considerable supervisory experience. PE License Required. Master's degree preferred. Certified Member of A.A.A.E. is preferred.

Qualifications:
Professional Engineer (P.E.) License in North Carolina (required).
Strong local market knowledge and established industry relationships to drive business development.
8-12 years of civil engineering experience, particularly in land development.
Proven leadership experience in supervising and mentoring technical staff.
Proficiency in Civil 3D software (required).

Position Overview
The Director of Engineering is a key leadership role within our Charlotte, NC office, responsible for overseeing all aspects of engineering operations. This includes guiding technical strategy, mentoring high-performing teams, and ensuring that all projects meet or exceed standards for quality, safety, and regulatory compliance.
You'll work cross-functionally with teams in surveying, construction management, and business development-driving engineering excellence and delivering innovative solutions that push our business forward.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Management
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers and technicians specializing in civil land development.
Create an environment that encourages professional development, innovation, and team success.
Define and implement engineering goals and strategic initiatives aligned with company objectives.
Project Oversight & Technical Direction
Oversee engineering projects from concept through construction-ensuring quality, timeliness, and budget alignment.
Set technical direction for project design, plans, and deliverables.
Conduct technical reviews and ensure engineering standards and practices are maintained.
Assist in production efforts based on business needs.
Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with internal departments to support integrated project delivery.
Serve as the face of engineering in meetings with clients, municipal officials, and partners.
Communicate project progress, risks, and solutions effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure all engineering work complies with local, state, and federal regulations.
Promote a strong culture of safety, ethics, and accountability across the team.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master's preferred.
PE (Professional Engineer) license required.
8+ years of experience in civil engineering with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Proficient in Civil 3D and other design software.
Strong understanding of land development processes including site grading, stormwater, and utility design.
Proven experience managing project teams, budgets, and schedules.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Physical ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. and perform field visits as needed.
