The Role We Want You For
The Mechanical Preconstruction Director will be responsible for taking the lead on a particular estimate(s) and providing direction to other team members. Is responsible for accurately calculating project costs by preparing budgets for all Mechanical/Plumbing/Fire Protection/ Process Piping/BMS. Budgeting efforts are for projects in pursuit and those awarded to the company. Successful candidates will be very well organized, have excellent communication skills and be computer literate. Must have prior experience in the construction industry and advanced knowledge to perform quantity takeoff. The project pursuits will be focused around larger more technically complex work such as EV, Semiconductor, Food & Beverage Manufacturing facilities, etc.
Specific Responsibilities:
Responsible for bidding work accurately, competitively, and on time.
Review of all RFP or design documents to establish a complete understanding of requested scope of work. Develop RFI lists for project clarifications. Emphasis of work will include more complicated, larger projects.
Coordination with project team to provide take off and estimating, constructability analyses, value engineering, cost control, scope reviews etc.
Ability to estimate and “fill in the gaps” for complete pricing when only conceptual design documents are available.
Take off all materials and prices, identify subcontractor involvement, solicit subcontractor and/or manufacturer prices and estimate direct field labor.
Assist internal team members who are responsible for building positive working relationships with local and national material suppliers and equipment vendors to provide current pricing of lighting, distribution equipment, low voltage systems, and miscellaneous material pricing.
Assist internal team members in maintaining positive working relationships with local and national Electrical /Technology/LV System subcontractors to verify market conditions and labor issues.
Assist internal team members responsible in maintaining current subcontractor and material costs within our estimating software.
Contribute in creating data to be used for conceptual estimating measures, such as, man-hours and/or cost per lineal foot, per square foot, by system, by spec, by building type, etc.
Requirements:
15+ years of experience as an estimator in electrical systems.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Experience with Trimble on-screen takeoff software is preferred.
Ability to review bid documents and offer design critique and/or VE opportunities
Must work well under pressure and deadlines.
Must have demonstrated success in leadership, safety awareness, good follow-up skills, coaching, and teamwork
Effective written/oral communication skills, and interpersonal skills

Job Description
The DIRECTOR of CONTROLS ENGINEERING is an integral person in helping our customer's vision for an automated storage solution from Movu US come to life. The core objectives are to oversee a team of Electrical Controls, Software and Project Engineering individuals, proactively collaborate with department heads of Project Management and After Sales, as well as hands-on leading of engineering efforts on assigned projects from kick off to site handover.
Solutions: Fully automated storage solutions including pallet shuttles (atlas), tote shuttles (escala), and ancillary systems such as conveyors and lifts.
Customers: End users are located throughout the United States and Canada. We work with many of the leading integrators as our Sales partners.

are the technical single point of contact for our integrator and end user engineering teams for the projects assigned to you
contribute to internal and external project kick off meetings

coordinate the creation of assembly drawings and PE stamped drawings
provide all necessary information to order processing
support project design and production efforts to assure projects are completed on time and within the established budget
provide the necessary information to Project Management to request quotes for installation and other contractors, and to eventually support the chosen assembly team on the installation of the rack, electro-mechanical components, and robotics commissioning
is responsible for sourcing materials and services in collaboration with Supply Chain and Project Management
process change orders and communicate cost variances to Sales and Project Management in case of customer requests or production issues
collaborate with Electrical Controls Engineering to provide the proper electro-mechanical specifications
collaborate with Software Engineering on matters that support the integration of our automation with the customer's WCS and WES
support Site Managers on technical issues and provide solutions
occasionally, visit job sites for measurements, inspections, installer walk-through, and provide engineering insights and support on Sales calls
collaborate with sales, engineering, and external vendors to ensure cohesive integration of our solutions in the customer's warehouse
stay informed about industry trends and technological advancements in robotics and warehouse automation to continuously refine engineering strategies and solutions
prepare and present detailed reports and presentations on potential ROI, project status, and strategic recommendations to senior management and clients
ensure all proposed solutions meet rigorous industry standards and safety regulations

Technical
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Automation Engineering, or a related field
Multiple years of management experience in the material handling industry, specifically with multi-technology integration experience is required
Multiple years of experience in post-sale engineering in the material handling/warehousing industry working with automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS)
Skilled in mechanical and robotic system design
Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking, and project management skills
Ability to communicate complex technical information to a non-technical audience
Practical
Willing and able to travel to customer sites throughout the United States and occasionally to Canada, approximately 15-20%, usually no more than 5-7 days at a time. Travel to our headquarters in Belgium may be a possibility at some point, usually no more than 3 weeks at a time
We work closely with our European colleagues. The morning hours are the most important so we can connect with them while our business hours overlap across time zones. If you love starting your workday mid-morning or later, you would hate it here.
