December 1899: 7th Biennial Convention of the Brotherhood of Painters and Decorators of America.

Union Local 739 in Winnipeg was formed in 1902 and has served continuously in Manitoba since that time.

In Witness Thereof, the General Executive Board of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades has caused the signatures of the General President and of the General Secretary-Treasurer and the official Seal fo the Brotherhood to be hereto affixed, this 8th day of August 1906.

September 7, 1914: Union dignitaries, painters and their families gathered at Loudon Park Cemetery in Baltimore for the dedication of a monument to honor Brotherhood founder and first GST John T. “Jack” Elliott.

By 1918, the Painters' union successfully established the eight-hour day and a five-day workweek.

In 1921, the Brotherhood finished construction on its first real home – the new International headquarters in Lafayette, Indiana.The upper front of the four-story reinforced concrete structure was covered in cream-colored glazed tile; the lower story and the entry way were done in brown granite.

The American public called for a change in government by electing Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932.

Union leaders worked with elected officials in creating landmark legislation like the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the legislation that created Medicare and Medicaid programs, and the creation of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Evelyn Pederson, its second female member since the charter had been granted 62 years before.In a letter dated October 23, 1968, former General President S. Frank “Bud” Raftery wrote:

The painters would stay at the forefront, but Raftery hoped that the “allied trades” would be a more dynamic and democratic umbrella for the rest.142 Although Raftery had already settled upon the acronym, a competition was held prior to the 1969 Convention.

January, 1970: A new name and logo for a new year.

In 1974, Steinberg won a panel contest sponsored by the Brotherhood and the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America through the National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee.
