    The Mail Services Mail Carrier position is based at the Mail Services central mail and package processing location at 701 Forrestal Road and the Mail Services student package room at the Frist Campus Center at Princeton University. Mail Services operations include campus delivery of internal campus mail, USPS mail, and packages. Additional duties include: mail metering, sorting, processing of international mail, external vendor presort services, fulfilling tasks in the student package room, fielding various client inquiries related to package and mail delivery, and delivery of outgoing mail and packages to the Carnegie Center Post Office. Critical to the position is ensuring the integrity, accuracy, safety, and confidentiality of mail handled by Mail Services. All tasks must be completed in accordance with USPS mailing standards, mail safety standards, and internal Princeton University protocols. Position responsibilities are to accurately, expeditiously, and effectively process and sort USPS, campus, and international mail and packages for all members of the Princeton University community. This position must also document receipts and deliveries of Priority, Certified, and Registered mail in a timely manner as determined by the needs of the department. Responsibilities Central Mail and Package Facility Operations: • Accepting, signing for, scanning, sorting and delivering packages from external vendors for all faculty and staff. These packages are routed through 701 Forrestal Road. • Sorts mail and packages into trays, boxes, or other receptacles, dividing the material into separate delivery locations. Packages, wraps, or bands the combined shipments for subsequent delivery to campus for faculty, staff, and student recipients. Safely packs materials into University vehicle(s) to ensure reliable transport. • Pick up of USPS mail and packages as assigned via University vehicle. • Metering of mail as assigned. • Safe and responsible driving is a critical aspect of the position, as well as maintaining a clean vehicle at all times and reporting any vehicle malfunction to the supervisor. • Pickup and delivery or distribution of materials across campus from various departments as assigned by management. • Affixing posters in designated locations across campus. • This position helps support the Mail Carrier Specialist in their deliveries as needed. Student Package Handling Responsibilities: • Inbound and outbound processing of student packages via the package processing software. • Receives parcel shipments from the USPS, UPS, FedEx, Amazon, and other transport firms. • Verifies the accuracy of the incoming shipments and signs delivery receipts or tickets as required. • Isolates suspicious incoming packages and letters using USPS "Suspicious Package Guidelines," "Suspicious Package Indicators," and "Mail Security Guide" published by USPS. Also follows internal Princeton University suspicious package protocol. • Records damaged incoming packages or mail. • Retrieves data to perform analysis resulting in accurate package counts and package tracking. • Updates the package locker system database and communicates package information to students. • Inbounds large packages for distribution to students at the oversized package room. This room must be well organized, and packages stored in a secure manner. • Follows up with students to ensure timely pick up of packages. • Answers client inquiries regarding mail and parcel delivery status, as well as questions regarding operation of the package locker system. • Distributes checks from the Office of Finance and Treasury via the Frist Package Room window to the correct recipient. This requires a signature from each recipient. Student Mail Room Responsibilities: • Mail room responsibilities include accurately sorting and filling of student high-density mail folders in the Frist Campus Center. • Forwarding and readdressing of appropriate mail to students, faculty, and staff. • Removal of non-deliverable mail for shredding and recycling. • Position must report any damaged or opened mail to supervisor immediately. • Responsibilities include client customer service, following up inquiries, problem solving, and assisting students with any mail requirements. • Handing out materials to students from academic departments across campus as needed. General Responsibilities: • Utilize the Service Now portal to provide excellent customer service at all times. • Abides by all University rights, rules and responsibilities, as well as collective bargaining agreements (this is an SEIU union position). • Assists students, departments, and administrators with special requests for mail and packages. • Makes recommendations to improve overall departmental job performance and department efficiency. • Assists supervisor to facilitate completion of critical tasks and projects. • Must be dependable and arrive for work on time with minimal unplanned absences. • Demonstrates confidentiality and sensitivity in handling personnel matters. • Ability to use the PC based package and mail processing software. • Willingness to work overtime during some evenings and weekends. • Works with supervisor to maintain vehicle condition status logs. • Immediately reports accidents to the appropriate authority in accordance with Mail Services vehicle policy. • Willingness to rotate with other University Mail Carriers in everyday functions to ensure full departmental coverage. • Identifying and fixing minor issues with the package lockers. Any issues that cannot be resolved should be reported to the Manager of Parcel Services and Technology or the Lead Mail Carrier. • Attend training courses as assigned by management. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: MINIMUM REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: • High School Diploma or GED. • 6 months to 1 year experience in mailing and package handling. • Computer literacy - working knowledge of Microsoft Office. • Ability to lift 75 pounds. • Ability to maneuver packages up to 150 lbs. using appropriate equipment and/or assistance from another carrier. • Valid driver's license. • High level of customer service skills. PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE: • Previous mail, shipping, and handling experience. • Knowledge of U.S. Post Office standards. • Experience with package and mail processing software. • Past experience working for and academic institution preferred; Past experience in similar environment with industry leaders such as USPS, UPS, Fedex are welcome. Job Summary The Facilities Clerk is responsible for distributing and delivering packages and interoffice mail efficiently, tracking mail logs, and maintaining inventory levels of office and kitchen supplies. This role involves generating inventory reports, coordinating supply orders with Facilities, and assisting with various projects as needed. Additionally, the Facilities Clerk conducts maintenance checks on company vehicles, manages outgoing mail, and follows a systemized delivery route to optimize package distribution within the company. Role Description * Distributes packages and materials to the different departments of the company * Follows a systematic route to deliver packages to all parts of the company and between buildings * Collects outgoing mail from all departments * Keeps track of interoffice mail and delivers in a timely manner * Delivers packages from building to building * Maintains incoming and outgoing mail logs * Restocks office and kitchen supplies company-wide on a timely basis * Maintains inventory levels of supplies throughout all departments * Responsible for weekly and bi-weekly inventory reports * Places orders with Facilities to maintain inventory levels * Helps Facilities and other departments with projects as needed * Maintains company vehicle logs and maintenance checks * Reports any vehicle issue or concerns to Facilities * Obtain certifications as a requirement of the role Behaviors and Competencies * Follow-Through: Can demonstrate a willingness to complete assigned tasks and responsibilities on time. * Communication: Can communicate simple ideas and information clearly. * Digital Acumen: Can demonstrate an understanding of basic digital tools and technologies. * Collaboration: Can demonstrate a willingness to contribute to team tasks and responsibilities when assigned. * Communication: Can communicate simple ideas and information clearly. The compensation for this position is dependent on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and market location and, therefore, will vary from individual to individual.
