2003

The company was founded in 2003 with an exclusive license to develop and market the technology.

2004

In 2004, NanoString raised its first significant funding in a $4.3M series A financing.

2008

In 2008, NanoString launched its first commercial instrument system and began international sales operations with its first multiplexed assays for gene expression analysis.

2010

As of June 2010, the company was not yet profitable.

In 2010, the company launched new applications for the system to support microRNA analysis and copy number variation detection.

Brad Gray, a former Genzyme executive, was hired as president and CEO in 2010.

2011

As of 2011, NanoString Technologies had raised nearly $70M with their series D.

2012

As of July, 2012, NanoString began indicating a move towards becoming a public company by hiring several senior staff with public company experience.

2013

In 2013, the company's IPO raised funding that was used to expand NanoString sales and marketing.

2019

In 2019, the company launched the GeoMx™ Digital Spatial Profiler enabling highly-multiplexed spatial profiling of RNA and protein targets in a variety of sample types, including FFPE tissue sections.
