Purpose
To provide the overall safety and security of our employees, guests and facilities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Monitor access control systems for all employees and guests, verify credentials, issue temporary I.D. badges.
Monitor all fire and security alarm systems for the Mentor facility. Only corporate monitors the sales offices and distribution centers. Mentor only monitors Mentor.
Constant monitoring of all radio communications.
Act as the companies 911 (2222) (6222) emergency response center.
Act as Incident Command emergency dispatch center for critical incidents. Dispatch ETM's for emergency response on critical incidents.
Coordinate with local police and fire for critical incident emergency response.
Patrol property, enforce parking guidelines, monitor surveillance equipment and inspect buildings.
Fill in at the truck entrance to cover vacations and call offs. Inspect vehicles entering restricted areas, verifying shipping and receiving papers and assign proper docks.
Issue gate passes and properly scale raw material and scrap.
Monitor railroad traffic entering and exiting the property.
Provide for the overall safety and security of company employees, guests and assets.
Interpret and enforce company and departmental policies and procedures.
Irregular work schedule required.
Effectively represent the company to all guests.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Manager of Security.

The Flex Officer position is crucial to our company's operational and financial success. The flex officer provides trained, competent support by working shifts which become open due to illness, call-offs, weather, vacation, or other causes. This enables Sunstates to provide continual, uninterrupted service to our customers, while also protecting the health and work balance of our personnel.
Scheduling Expectations
The scheduling parameters and expectations for a flex officer are different from those of an employee assigned to a fixed post. As a flex:
You will be trained at various posts and /or facilities based on operational need. While you may work at a specific post or location for several weeks due to need, this will not be a permanent assignment.
Your schedule (shifts, days off, hours per week, etc.) will vary based on operational need.
You will be assigned to, or offered the opportunity to accept, shifts as they become available due to staffing needs.
Some of your shifts will be scheduled in advance and posted with the new week's schedule. Sometimes you will be called with short notice and asked to come in to cover for someone who is unable to work their shift.
You are expected to work any shift for which you are scheduled in advance which falls within the availability described on this sheet. Guided by the University's mission, vision, core values and strategic plan, and the University Police Department's (JCUPD) mission and values, the primary functions of the JCUPD are to provide for the safety, security, and well-being of John Carroll University (JCU) students, staff and faculty, and the broader JCU Community. The foremost responsibility of the Security Officer is to provide response, services and expertise in support of these functions.
The nature of the Security Officer's position requires that they, in normal daily functioning, act independently in regard to decision-making, given general direction and guidance from the JCUPD Mission, and the University Mission and Learning Goals. JCUPD Operations Manual and the shift Corporal and/or Sergeant provide more specific direction and guidance. The Security Officer will interact with internal constituents (students, faculty, staff, and contractors) and external constituents (parents, neighbors, merchants, governmental agencies, and others). These interactions may have significant implications for the operation of the Department, the Division, and the University.
Duties and Responsibilities
* Respond to and assist the police officer on duty with emergencies; which may include criminal, medical, fire, and other emergencies on campus or affecting the JCU community.
* Produce non-criminal reports which are clear, concise, complete, and correct.
* Conduct proactive campus patrol, employing a community policing approach. This includes engagement with members of campus constituencies by positive interactions and an active, high-visibility presence.
* Address suspicious activity in an unbiased and safe manner.
* Ensure the physical security of JCU property. Identify potential hazards, and act to remedy potential hazards.
* Provide support to campus activities in planning and execution of event security, parking and transportation.

We are looking for responsible candidates who can handle stressful situations and are capable of de-escalating situations. It should be noted that while preforming the duties of this job, physical engagement may occur. Uniforms and duty gear are provided free of charge.
The Security Team has the primary mission to protect both the staff and patients of the hospital. This interactive position with the public is a hands-on job that will be challenged with a variety of work, all while prioritizing the safety of both our staff and patients. This position offers stellar benefits, including tuition assistance, shall you want to further your education.
Our Security Team rotation allows for three different shifts a day to provide our hospital with 24/7 coverage. This position would also require rotating weekends and holidays with no on-call responsibility.

Sign-On Bonus Details:
$1,500 sign-on bonus available
Candidates hired into a sign-on bonus eligible role will be asked to make a 2-year work commitment.
Responsibilities:
* Staff fixed posts to monitor ingress and egress to secured areas
* Provides customer service to patients, families, visitors and staff to maintain a safe and secure environment.
* Inspect incoming and outgoing parcels as necessary to prevent theft
* Responds to and resolves problems, disputes and unusual circumstances as necessary.
* Maintain required certifications and licensing
* Assist with traffic control and vehicle assists
* Transport deceased to morgue/release bodies from morgue
* Monitor security, fire, and environmental alarms, respond to alarms and assist when needed.
* Establish a uniformed security presence by patrolling UPMC hospitals, buildings, grounds and associated areas to deter criminal activity, document activities, and contact UPMC Police Officers or other appropriate law enforcement when necessary.
* Operate UPMC vehicles in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code
* Conduct patient escorts and stand-by details
* Complete all mandatory training programs per departmental guidelines
* Report and document incidents, suspicious activities and hazards
* High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
* High level of integrity required for handling sensitive/confidential UPMC information.
* Must possess strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to effectively interact, communicate, and diffuse potential combative situations with persons from all walks of life.
* Psychological fitness required to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.
* Physical fitness requirements to deal with typical physical demands that require full body motion and physical strength and stamina sufficient to respond to crisis interventions and medical emergencies.
* Be able to effectively communicate both orally and in written format. Good interpersonal skills; able to deal with stress and potentially dangerous conflict situations.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Act 235 with Firearms OR Act 235 without Firearms - All officers hired without a valid Act 235 must complete the 235 certification within their first 6 months of hire or placement and have process completed within 9 months of hire. Must meet audio and visual standards outlined in Act 235 at time of hire. Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certification required within 30 days of hire. Valid Driver's License. Successfully pass UPMC Physical Fitness Standard prior to hire.
