This Non-Exempt | Part-Time position currently best aligns with the Army Interpreter Labor Category and ideal candidates exhibit the ability to visualize, analyze, and convert data and experiences to meet performance challenges while confidently engaging in productive “Jugaad” and dialogue targeting mission success. ProSidian Team Members work to provide American SignLanguage (ASL) interpretation services to support hard of hearing and/or deaf employees and customers at the Letterkenny Army Depot and surrounding areas on an as needed basis.
American SignLanguage (ASL) Interpreter - Letterkenny Army Depot Candidates shall work to support requirements for Enter GSA SIN and provide American SignLanguage (ASL) interpretation services to support hard of hearing and/or deaf employees and customers at the Letterkenny Army Depot and surrounding areas on an as needed basis.
Responsibilities of the ASL Interpreter will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Providing ASL interpretation services on an as-needed basis.
Translating spoken and written English to hard of hearing and/or deaf employes and customers.
Ensuring all interpretation is of the highest level to the Army and its customers.
Working to learn Army acronyms and related terms, words, and/or phrases to ensure accurate interpretation.
Working with Army leaders and employees to support the mission of the contract.
Qualifications
The American SignLanguage (ASL) Interpreter - Letterkenny Army Depot shall have consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years, Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and proficient in Microsoft Office Products (Word/Excel/PowerPoint) and related tools and technology required for the position. Work products shall be thorough, accurate, appropriately documented, and comply with established criteria. All employees, in the performance of their respective responsibilities, shall conduct themselves in the highest possible standards of ethical and business conduct. The candidate shall ensure that duties are performed in a competent and professional manner that meets milestones/delivery schedules as outlined.
The ASL Interpreter must have the following qualifications:
Six (6) years of ASL interpreting experience post interpreter certification in a professional setting,
OR
A Bachelor's Degree in a related field (ASL Interpreting, Deaf Studies, ASL Studies, ASL Linguistics),
AND
Four (4) years of ASL interpreting experience post interpreter certification/degree in a professional setting,
OR
A Master's Degree in a related field (ASL Interpreting, Deaf Studies, ASL Studies, ASL Linguistics),
AND
Three (3) years of ASL interpreting experience post interpreter certification/degree in a professional setting.
Current National Interpreter Certification (CI/CT, NAD-IV, NAD-V, NIC, NIC Advanced, or NIC Master); OR State Interpreter Certification (BEI, TX).
The ability to interpret fluently: Sign simultaneously and/or consecutively from oral spoken English into ASL and voice from ASL to oral spoken English, as required.
The ability to interpret for meaning: Sign simultaneously and/or consecutively using verbatim, conceptually accurate or idiomatic methods, as required.
High degree of accuracy of interpretation.
Willingness to provide, accept, and incorporate feedback from the COR, from other interpreters, and from Federal employees/contractors.
Previous experience in effectively interpreting on a consistent basis for US Government DP employee(s) highly preferred.
Possess linguistic and cultural expertise in both ASL and English to provide fluent communication for all LEAD employees, contractors, and guests.
Willingness to learn Army terminology, and processes and procedures.
Willingness to learn Federal, Department of Defense, and Department of Army terminology in ASL.
Linguistic and cultural expertise in both ASL and English to provide fluent communication for all Army employees, contractors, and guests (ASL to be assessed by the employee, and English to be assessed by GS employee).
The ability to interpret subject matter ranging from simple statement of facts to complex and specialized terminology.
Some emergency and after hours interpretation services may be required. The candidate will be given a minimum of forty eight (48) hours notice in the event emergency service is needed.

Responsible for providing American SignLanguage (ASL) to English and English to ASL interpreting for students who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or Deaf-Blind in local education agencies (LEAs) with whom the program contacts. Interpreting services provide access to communication and learning in the school-based environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Interprets all communication in the school environment, focusing on matters such as instruction, discussions, lab work, print materials, assessments, media, assemblies, athletic events, clubs, and field trips, for assigned students.
Provides information on considerations for interpreted education at the beginning of the school year with subsequent ongoing consultation to others engaging with the interpreter (e.g. administrators, students, teachers, coaches, counselors), clarifying the role and responsibilities of the Educational Interpreter, in support of effective communication between the students who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing or Deaf-Blind and others.
Assists with setting up physical learning spaces, in collaborating with the Educational Audiologist, Teacher of the Deaf and classroom teachers, to create instructional environments that ensure visual access to the materials and the interpreter's signing.
Plans for interpretation by securing and reviewing instructional materials, media, textbooks, and lesson plans, in order to prepare appropriately for effective interpretation within specific content areas or for school-related events.
Interacts directly with the student or supports other educational professionals to share content through repeating, clarifying or restructuring information to facilitate emerging and developing language.
Informally teaches conversational signlanguage to peers, teachers and staff through clubs, or as needed in real-time, to support opportunities for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing or Deaf-Blind student to interact directly with others.
Provides information to the IEP team regarding the student's strengths or needs related to language development and use of interpretation across settings by contributing in writing to the student's Communication Plan and IEP and by attending the IEP meeting to add to the data on the student's language and communication needs.
Consults with educational professionals, such as a Teacher of the Deaf or Speech and Language Pathologist, to support their instruction on language development and social emotional learning.
Advances knowledge of evidence-based and best practices of educational interpreting and continuously adds to their American SignLanguage vocabulary through participation in at least 20 hours of professional development, annually, in order to sustain the ability to provide effective interpretation.
Adheres to the Professional Guidelines for Interpreting in Educational Settings and the Educational Interpreter Code of Ethics as outlined by the National Association of Interpreters in Education (NAIE).
Prepares and maintains a detailed daily/weekly schedule, yearly calendar and ongoing sub plans so that continuity of services can be provided in the event of an absence.
Maintains student confidentiality by protecting client data in accordance with HIPAA/FERPA regulations and AIU policy, safeguarding students, the intermediate unit, and the local education agencies (LEAs) with whom the program contracts.
Qualifications:
High School Diploma required.
Meet the requirements set forth by the Pennsylvania Department of Education under Chapter 14 by either attaining a 3.5 or higher on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) or be a registered interpreter with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry's Office for the Deaf or Hard of Hearing.
Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Interpreting, preferred.
Minimum of two years interpreting in the educational setting, preferred.
Reliable transportation required for work-related travel.

Program: Ambulatory Health Services
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Interpret statements between two or more persons conversing in English and a non-English language; interpret questions asked of a non-English speaking person; obtain the requested information and interpret this in English; reiterate certain points if unsure whether audience fully understand the interpretation.
Interpret written or spoken instructions for a non-English speaking person.
Give information in the designated non-English language to those inquiring about activities and facilities which the city makes available to the public.
Translate from English to the non-English language and vice versa, correspondence to be sent to business firms and individuals; review written translations with other interpreters to ensure accuracy.
File, answer telephones, and perform routine clerical duties.
Perform related work as required.
Explain the benefits and eligibility standards for relevant insurance programs to Health Center patients. The position requires knowledge of Affordable Care Act program eligibility.
Use Health Center electronic medical records to ensure thorough communication of patient's eligibility and application status.
Be able to lift at least 20lbs.
Qualifications
Education and experience required:
High School Diploma required
Must have knowledge of the grammar and usage of the designated non-English language, and English usage and grammar.
Must have knowledge of the colloquialisms idiomatic and idiomatic expressions of the designated non-English language.
Ability to translate routing correspondence into the designated non-English language and from the non-English language to English.
Ability to convey the appropriate information, questions, and instruction in a manner which is understood by all persons involved.
Ability to establish effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
POSITION TYPE AND WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time position with fringe benefits. Hours: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM with 30-minute lunch break or as agreed to with supervisor. Days: Monday thru Friday.
