POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Disability Services, the signlanguageinterpreter provides services to students who are deaf, hard-of-hearing, or have other communication disorders. The signlanguageinterpreter assists faculty, staff, students, and District 525 community members by providing signlanguage as a required accommodation under Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 at all campus locations during daytime hours. The SignLanguageInterpreter must value diversity and inclusion to support the mission of the college, and promote a climate of mutual respect and full participation by providing an accessible experience for all students, staff, faculty, and community members.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Professionally represent Joliet Junior College and uphold the College's core values: respect, inclusion, integrity, collaboration, humor, well-being, innovation, quality, and sustainability.
2. Translate oral communication into signlanguage for students, faculty, staff, and community members during events including but not limited to scheduled classroom session(s), meetings, campus events, colloquia, telephone calls, and other situations as needed.
3. Interpret and transliterate American SignLanguage and signed English into oral or written language for hearing individuals as well as others not conversant with signlanguage.
4. Follow the procedures related to scheduling, attendance and other procedures outlined in the SignLanguageInterpreter Handbook.
5. Abide by the principles of ethical behavior as set forth by the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
6. Maintain confidentiality of student documentation and records.
7. Maintain accurate and timely records.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Associate's degree.
2. Valid IllinoisInterpreter license with Intermediate, Advanced, or Master level proficiency and/or Certification of BEI or RID.
3. Valid Illinois driver's license and a car.
4. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
5. Demonstrated commitment to the college's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

General Duties:

At times, when it does not interfere with their service as interpreters, educational interpreters may be asked to assist the teacher with some of the more routine classroom duties.

Opportunity Overview: LSA is looking for American SignLanguageInterpreters for a client in the Chicago, IL area. LSA network interpreters are independently contracted, and as such, are able to negotiate competitive fees for services based on experience, professional credentials, and market factors.
Interpreters participating in the LSA network have the ability to accept or decline assignments as best fit their schedule.
Independently contracted interpreters that join the LSA network are provided opportunities to accept challenging assignments and gain competitive industry experience.
Interpreters are expected to remain committed to assignments accepted, and to arrive onsite by the time requested by the client.
All interpreters are provided access to our web-based invoicing platform and 24hr coordinator support for assignments, invoicing, and general queries.
Location:To be considered for this role, you must be in/near or able to travel to the Chicago, IL area.
About the role:Interpreters in LSA's network of independent contractors are asked to meet the following requirements: · Associate or Bachelor degree· RID (or BEI where applicable)· Interpreter's state's QA equivalent level certification · Proof required License or Registration· Fluency in English and American SignLanguage· Knowledge of and adherence to the ethics of interpreting· Experience and comfort working in medical and/or mental health settings

Summary
The LanguageInterpreter is responsible for providing interpretation services to patients, family members throughout the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (SRAlab) System of Care.

Job Description
The LanguageInterpreter will:
* Provide interpretation for patients, caregivers throughout the SRAlab System of Care to ensure patients receive full benefit of treatment.
* Translate clinical and procedural documents by providing an oral translation into the language of the patient
* Translate written documents.
* Assist employees in understanding cultural differences and how language barriers may impact patient care.
* Collaborate with other Interpreters on inpatient and outpatient schedules and assignment of registry and agency interpreters.
* Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
Reporting Relationships
* Reports directly to the Business Support Manager, Interpreter Services
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
* Successful completion of a formal program in medical interpreting and translation with medical interpretation certificate.
* Progressive experience in medical translation and interpretation including working with diverse organizations, multi-cultural environments.
* Demonstrated accurate ability to interpret verbal and transcribe written medical and rehabilitative information in both the foreign language as well as English language.
* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding or cultural differences that exist within cultures.
* Adherence to code of ethics and confidentiality.
* Ability to manage caseload and time; able to travel between patient care areas and off-site facilities.
* Ability to balance interpretation and administrative work.
* Ability to sustain a busy and flexible work schedule.
Working Conditions
* Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
Pay and Benefits*:
Pay Range: $17.00 per hour - $29.59 per hour
