ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Provide communications training to assigned participants
Provide consumer education related to interpreting issues.

Maintain daily progress notes on assigned students and submit regular written reports to supervisor.
Assist in the preparation of learning aids,

Shares responsibility for the equipment and general appearance of the work area.
Accompany and serve as a guide and/or interpreter for participants, professional staff members, and guests as assigned. Duties may require the use of a personal vehicle for travel to field sites, meetings, or events, including travel to Albany, NY, and Washington, D.C., for on-site interpretation.
Flexibility with work schedules, including some evening hours and overnight stays, is necessary to meet participants' and staff members' needs. Occasional travel may be required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required Bachelor's degree.
Required ITP (Interpreting Training Program- must have passed written RID test) RID/NAD NIC Knowledge test must have passed.
Two or three years of interpreting experience with individuals who are DeafBlind and/or deaf-visually impaired.
Must obtain RID/NAD NIC certification within 5 years of employment.
Proficiency in methods of communication utilized by individuals who are DeafBlind.
Some evening hours will be scheduled based upon students or staff needs and must be flexible with travel when needed.

Listens to oral and written intercepts or pre-recorded communications in Urban English and provides verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as it may be applicable per project.
Responsible for relating all pertinent information to the Client when supporting a live project.
Contributes to a master-list of slang words and codes (used by a particular group/organization) for the duration of the project/case.
Maintains a voice library for the duration of the project.
Transcribes and translates pertinent calls and documents as assigned by their supervisor.
Produce court ready transcriptions of pertinent calls, chats, and documents, following the required format.
Responsible for using the various reference tools created during the project.
Ability to transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8-hour day.
Operates specialized software equipment provided by the government to include JSI voice box, Pen-link, Comverse, and other communication collection equipment used at their assigned site.

Establish and maintain positive, professional interactions with patients, customers, healthcare providers, and clinical staff.
Continuously improve specialized vocabulary and subject matter knowledge (e.g., medical, legal, social services) to meet client needs.
Demonstrate professionalism, neutrality, and confidentiality throughout the interpretation process.
Provide high-quality interpretation, ensuring no omissions or additions, while adhering to established industry standards.

Preferred: Completion of a 60-hour Medical Interpreter Training Course from a well-regarded institution.
