The Interpreter provides language interpretation services between limited English proficient speaking patients/families and the site's care providers. This is a full or part time position. Hours of operation are Monday- Friday 8-4: no nights, weekends or holidays! Mandarin speaking required.
Responsibilities:
Provide accurate translation services for participants in social and informational settings.
Maintain proper medical terminology vocabulary and fluency both in English and target language.
Maintain appointment calendar with both internal and external interpreter resources.
Accompany participants to outside appointments as needed.
Apply cultural differences with the needs of the participant.
Accurately maintain interpretation tracking forms.
Schedule agency interpreters for appointments at site.
Ensure team/site goals are achieved by participating in administrative and/or operational tasks, as needed.
Position may include duties that require wearing a face mask where a seal is critical. Incumbent may be required to not have facial hair that interferes with a tight seal of the respirator.
Performs other duties as required.
Job Specifications:
High School Diploma or equivalency and Certified Medical Interpreter designation from accredited post-high school institution.
The ability to speak fluently in both English and target language, communicate well verbally.
0-2 years' experience translating in a healthcare setting preferred.
Elder experience preferred.

Role
The Educational Interpreter II provides sign language services for students, faculty, staff, families, and community stakeholders eligible to receive such services through Frederick Count Public Schools (FCPS).
Essential Functions
Reporting directly to the Coordinator of Interpreting Services, the Educational Interpreter I performs the following duties:
Facilitates communication through the following activities:
* When interpreting for a student:
* Interprets/transliterates information, accurately conveying the thought, intent, and spirit of the sender in the communication mode determined by the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) team
* Interprets/transliterates situations outside the classroom as appropriate and assigned.
* Fosters appropriate use of an interpreter in a variety of settings.
* When interpreting for all other stakeholders eligible to receive interpreting services:
* Interprets/transliterates information, accurately conveying the thought, intent, and spirit of the message in the communication mode preferred by the stakeholder.
Coordinates facility logistics
* Positioning self in a place that provides the best distance, lighting, background and angle for a clear line of sight to the speaker, media and interpreter
* Advocating the use of closed captioning and other technology devices.
Maintain and continue professional growth and development
* Uses preparation time effectively by acquiring and becoming familiar with materials, including but not limited to, topical content and technical vocabulary in textbooks and other media.
* Collaborate with other interpreters throughout FCPS to share information, ideas, and signs.
* Attend professional development sessions provided by FCPS.
Complies with the Code of Ethics set forth by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
Other Essential Functions:
* Participates in providing educators general information about social, emotional and cultural aspects of individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing.
* Shares best practices for those utilizing interpreting services.
* Attends IEP Team meetings or provides information when requested by the school team.

Required Qualifications

Your Main Objective
As the Linguist, you will be tasked with a full range of activities in processing materials or participating in situations requiring general professional capabilities. Task-specific responsibilities are outlined below…
Translation:
Can accurately translate reports/texts in electronic and hard-copy formats that contain facts and some abstract language showing an ability to capture intended implications and many nuances.
Can generally capture geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural elements in a text. Word choice and expression generally adhere to target language (TL) norms and means of expression specific to the subject field(s) and are strong enough to allow the translator to operate successively in that field.
Interpretation:
Able to interpret accurately. Typically, consecutive interpretation is needed, but simultaneous interpretation may be requested on rare occasions.
Has a good understanding of one or more regional dialects.
Transcription:
Review audio or internet material and transcribe with a high degree of accuracy and expression.
Must possess excellent English-language written communication skills for preparing reports.

What Sets You Apart:
TS/SCI with polygraph is required.
BA/BS and/or equivalent formal military training and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
Attending and passing all sponsor-related training is a requirement of employment.
Successfully complete sponsor-required training, travel, and medical requirements if applicable.
