We are seeking American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters to support our software developers and engineers in meeting their mission requirements. Specifically, this candidate would help with in-house translations, facilitate communication among staff and customers, bridge the gap in customer communications (secure meetings), and work on a part-time, as needed basis. Though rare, there may be occasional travel for conferences and customer site meetings. Candidates must reside within a 30-minute commute to our Vienna office to handle scheduled and ad-hoc onsite meetings as they may arise. Meetings take place Monday - Friday, typically between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Candidates must undergo and pass a security clearance investigation before onboarding. Role The Educational Interpreter II provides sign language services for students, faculty, staff, families, and community stakeholders eligible to receive such services through Frederick Count Public Schools (FCPS). Essential Functions Reporting directly to the Coordinator of Interpreting Services, the Educational Interpreter I performs the following duties: Facilitates communication through the following activities: * When interpreting for a student: * Interprets/transliterates information, accurately conveying the thought, intent, and spirit of the sender in the communication mode determined by the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) team * Interprets/transliterates situations outside the classroom as appropriate and assigned. * Fosters appropriate use of an interpreter in a variety of settings. * When interpreting for all other stakeholders eligible to receive interpreting services: * Interprets/transliterates information, accurately conveying the thought, intent, and spirit of the message in the communication mode preferred by the stakeholder. Coordinates facility logistics * Positioning self in a place that provides the best distance, lighting, background and angle for a clear line of sight to the speaker, media and interpreter * Advocating the use of closed captioning and other technology devices. Maintain and continue professional growth and development * Uses preparation time effectively by acquiring and becoming familiar with materials, including but not limited to, topical content and technical vocabulary in textbooks and other media. * Collaborate with other interpreters throughout FCPS to share information, ideas, and signs. * Attend professional development sessions provided by FCPS. Complies with the Code of Ethics set forth by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. Other Essential Functions: * Participates in providing educators general information about social, emotional and cultural aspects of individuals who are deaf/hard of hearing. * Shares best practices for those utilizing interpreting services. * Attends IEP Team meetings or provides information when requested by the school team. * Regular and predictable attendance. Performs other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of Interpreting Services. Required Qualifications * High School diploma or equivalent. * Fluent in Sign Language. * Completion of an interpreter training program from a higher education institute. NOTE: Three (3) years of successful experience as a sign language interpreter may be used in lieu of training program. * Certification from one or more of the following: Registry of the interpreters for the Deaf (RID), Virginia Quality Assurance Screening (VQAS), Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA), National Association of the Deaf (NAD). * Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations. Preferred Qualifications * Background in an educational setting. * Classroom interpreting experience. * Familiarity with the FCPS policies, goals and programs. **The Work** The Legal Translator will play a critical role in providing high-quality translation services in the legal field. This position performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Cayuse **Responsibilities** **Key Responsibilities** + Provide written translation services for legal documents including letters, reports, website content, posters, brochures, general information documents, correspondence, etc. + Preserve the original content, meaning and tone of the document. + Translators must accurately depict cultural sensitivity and clarity. + Edit and proofread translated documents to ensure accuracy, clarity, and adherence to legal terminology. + Must be able to conduct a Quality edit proof process when assigned for review. + Translators are required to follow style guides, glossaries, and our clients' preferences. + Ensure confidentiality and security of all translated materials. + Stay up to date with legal terminology and industry's best practices. + Other duties as assigned. **Qualifications** **Qualifications - Here's What You Need** + High School Diploma or 4 years of experience. + Fluency in one of the following languages: + Spanish, Vietnamese, Russian, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Somali. + Must have one of the following certifications: + Legal Translation online certifications. + CTP (Certified Translation Professional). + ATA (American Translators Association). + AOC (Administrative Office of the Court). + Membership to NAJIT ( National Association of Judiciary Interpreters and Translators). + Experience working in: + State Department. + Refugees. + Court/ Legal setting. + Familiarity with Legal Terminology. + Experience with Publications. + Must be able to pass a background check. Requirements Your Main Objective As the Linguist, you will be tasked with a full range of activities in processing materials or participating in situations requiring general professional capabilities. Task-specific responsibilities are outlined below… Translation: Can accurately translate reports/texts in electronic and hard-copy formats that contain facts and some abstract language showing an ability to capture intended implications and many nuances. Can generally capture geopolitical, regional, ethnic, and cultural elements in a text. Word choice and expression generally adhere to target language (TL) norms and means of expression specific to the subject field(s) and are strong enough to allow the translator to operate successively in that field. Interpretation: Able to interpret accurately. Typically, consecutive interpretation is needed, but simultaneous interpretation may be requested on rare occasions. Has a good understanding of one or more regional dialects. Transcription: Review audio or internet material and transcribe with a high degree of accuracy and expression. Must possess excellent English-language written communication skills for preparing reports. Has a good understanding of one or more regional dialects. What Sets You Apart: TS/SCI with polygraph is required. BA/BS and/or equivalent formal military training and 8 - 12 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 6 - 10 years of prior relevant experience. Additional years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree. Attending and passing all sponsor-related training is a requirement of employment. Successfully complete sponsor-required training, travel, and medical requirements if applicable. All candidates must take and pass a language test administered by Stardust GCS/an accepted commercial testing vendor. You Might Also Have: Experience deployed as a linguist advocating contingency operations. Knowledge of the U.S. Intelligence Community, military, cryptologic, and law enforcement experience.
