Position DescriptionRocketship SpecialEducationTeachers, known as EducationSpecialists (Moderate/Severe Support Needs), play a critical role in ensuring every student has access to an excellent education. Specialists serve students with significant support needs, including those with intellectual disabilities, autism, multiple disabilities, and communication or behavioral challenges.
At Rocketship, we believe in the power of inclusive education. Our model ensures that students with disabilities learn alongside their peers whenever possible, while also receiving individualized instruction in smaller group or specialized settings. EducationSpecialists collaborate with general educators and lead paraprofessionals to provide accommodations, modifications, and targeted supports, creating classrooms where all students thrive together.
Specialists manage a caseload at a single school, delivering instruction in functional academics, adaptive skills, communication supports, and behavior interventions while ensuring compliance with IDEA and state law. They are supported through weekly coaching from school leaders and additional coaching from a SpecialEducation Program Specialist to strengthen practice and sustain growth.
Behavior support is also central to the role. Specialists partner with families and staff to implement Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), model strategies for paraprofessionals, and use approaches such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and crisis intervention to maintain safe, supportive learning environments.

Instruction & Inclusion
Ensure that all students work toward and achieve the rigorous academic and functional goals outlined in their IEPs; our goal is that each Rocketeer makes meaningful annual growth
Deliver a combination of academic instruction, functional/adaptive skills, and communication supports (including augmentative and alternative communication systems), using STAR curriculum aligned with Common Core Standards
Provide individualized and small-group instruction, as well as push-in and pull-out support, balancing specialized settings with opportunities for meaningful inclusion in general education classrooms
Lead and coach paraprofessionals to ensure consistent, high-quality implementation of accommodations, modifications, and individualized supports
Case Management & Compliance
Own and manage an IEP caseload aligned with state regulations, ensuring compliance with IDEA and state law
Draft and write professional IEPs, facilitate IEP meetings, and ensure both the online system and school-based files are compliant and accurately reflect each Rocketeer's Individualized Education Program
Collaborate with psychologists and related service providers (e.g., speech, occupational therapy, physical therapy) for evaluations and, when needed, administer academic assessments. Review and interpret results to determine learners' strengths and areas of need for initial, annual, and triennial IEP meetings
Communicate regularly with families and team members about student progress, goals, and accommodations
Behavior & Family Partnership
Approach behavior with the mindset that all behaviors communicate a need, and develop responsive supports in partnership with students, families, and school staff
Implement and oversee Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), ensuring paraprofessionals and teachers apply strategies consistently
Apply intensive behavior support practices, including principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and crisis intervention techniques, to maintain safe and supportive learning environments
Partner with families through IEP meetings, regular communication, and home visits to ensure transparency and shared ownership of student growth

Required Qualifications
Hold a B.A./B.S. degree from an accredited institution
Hold a valid Moderate/Severe Support Needs credential, or be eligible for a Provisional Internship Permit (PIP) or Short-Term Staff Permit (STSP), which requires current CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. CPR certification must be active or candidate must be willing to complete CPR certification prior to start date at Rocketship.
Must maintain active and in-good-standing credential status throughout employment with Rocketship
Preferred Qualifications
At least 2 years of experience working with children in specialeducation, behavioral support, or related settings
Experience leading or coaching paraprofessionals

Major Duties and Responsibilities
Teaches specialeducation pupils in a special day class an intensive language and speech program, the basic learning skills, and other subject matter commensurate with the social, physical and intellectual needs of the pupil, with emphasis on appropriate learning processes and behavior.
Assesses the needs of individual pupils in order to plan an appropriate program of individualized instruction.
Provides and implements appropriate individualized educational program for each pupil in accordance with Federal, state and local regulations and procedures with the goal of the least restrictive environment and independence for the pupil
Develops student skills with the goal that the child will eventually be able to work independently and follow directions as required in a regular classroom.
Establishes and maintains, with the cooperation and aid of the school administrator, standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
Provides appropriate physical and psychological environment to establish and reinforce acceptable pupil behavior, attitudes and social skills.
Integrates the program for pupils within the Special Day Class with the total school program of each assigned school.
Arranges with staff for integration of students into regular classes as determined by the student's Individual Educational Plan (IEP).
Confers with parents and professional staff members on each pupil's progress.
Serves as a member of the Student Study Team (SST) as required.
Participates in the assessment, planning and identification process for appropriate pupils.
Evaluates and monitors pupil progress and makes periodic reports on the achievement and personal adjustment of EH/SDC pupils, in cooperation with the administration support and teaching staff, through the provision of appropriate pupil assessments.
Maintains accurate attendance and other required records.
Attends meetings at District Office and school site(s), including in-service training.
Complies with District and school site policies and procedures.
Implements Federal, State and local regulations relative to specialeducation pupils.
Maintains standards of professionalism and abides by the tenets of the State of California “Code of Ethics of the Teaching Profession”.

Operates flexibly within the school environment.
Provides in-service training when required.
Provides continual supervision on an “on call” basis for students assigned to his/her group, as necessary, when problem situations arise elsewhere in the school.
Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service education activities provided and supported by the District and in other professional growth activities.
Recommends to appropriate staff committee or administrator various books, instructional aids, supplies and equipment which may be ordered for specialeducation pupils.
Keeps abreast of curriculum requirements for grades and subjects in all areas studied by pupils assigned.
Seeks and uses new teaching techniques and special equipment adapted to the nature of disability of student.
Shares in the sponsorship and/or supervision of students activities
Communicates with parents to interpret contemporary methods of teaching with other appropriate staff and agencies to discuss the individual student's progress.
Plans and coordinates work of assigned SpecialEducation Paraprofessional, Special Needs Paraprofessionals and/or Behavior Support Assistants.
Maintains current knowledge of regulations and procedures related to programs and services for specialeducation students.
Other duties as assigned by the site administrator or Director - Student Services or designee.

Position Summary

Brief Description of Duties
We are seeking qualified lecturers to teach U.S. history courses on a part-time, temporary basis depending on department needs. Specific courses include HIST 15: Essentials of U.S. History and HIST 170S: American Identities & Institutions. HIST 15 is a 3-unit, lower-division survey course in U.S. history that fulfills the American Institutions graduation requirement (Area US1). HIST 170S is a 3 unit, upper-division survey course in U.S. history that fulfills the US1 requirement and also the Area S: Self, Society, and Equality in in SJSU Studies. Candidates should expect to teach in-person, on campus.
* Candidates with U.S. History teaching experience are preferred.
* Candidates must be prepared to teach courses as assigned by the department chair in accordance with course descriptions and General Education requirements.

Conditional Offer

Hollister School District For students in Transitonal Kindergarten through 6th Grade: Provides learning experiences and instructs pupils in pre-reading, reading, language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, art, health, physical education, and music in a classroom setting; Utilizes an adopted course of study, program guides, and a variety of other materials in developing lesson planning and teaching outlines; Utilizes a variety of methodology in teaching and instructing pupils including subject matter instruction, demonstration, lecture, and activity participation; Utilizes a variety of specializededucational equipment, materials, books, and learning aids; Teaches and instructs pupils in citizenship and other subject matter specified by legal mandates, district policies, and regulations; Prepares, develops, and utilizes a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate for the instructional level of pupils within a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity; Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates the history, background, and assessment of pupils in designing an educational program to meet specific individual educational needs; Provides individual and group instruction designed to enhance the pupils' mental, social, and emotional growth.
A valid California Multiple Subject Credential or Authorization, NCLB compliance for Multiple Subjects and Authorization to teach English Learners is required. At least 24 ECE and/or Childhood Development completed, or a Child Development Permit issued by the CTC is required for TK Teachers.
