Hillsborough YMCA is seeking qualified Teacher Assistants who will assist the Head Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum. At the Y, our curriculum encourages learning through exploration and discovery, and promotes the development of a positive self-image. Our Teacher Assistants report to the Head Teacher and are responsible for assisting with Arts & Crafts projects, conducting “circle time”, helping during lunch/snacks and diapering/potty training (room specific). Our Teacher Assistants model positive social interactions and language, and implement positive class management techniques and strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
Ensure the health, safety and well-being of children in the program, by providing close supervision of all activities.
Assist Head Teacher in creating and leading developmentally appropriate lessons and activities.
Work as a supportive team member.
Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment, by reporting and / or removing all potential hazards and by setting up spaces and materials with a focus on supporting child learning.
Maintain accurate program documentation including by not limited to incident, accident and behavior reports, attendance sheets, sign-in / sign-out sheets, development and growth forms; document eating and sleeping, as well as any areas of concern.
Actively participate in all training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
Other activities and duties as needed that address the ongoing health and well-being of our staff and members.
Follow and maintain sanitary habits in accordance with CDC guidelines.
Desired Skills & Experience:
High School diploma
Minimum of one year of experience working with young children in a group setting.
Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.

THE PROGRAM
At VEG we find a way to say yes to helping future veterinary technicians grow into their potential. Our Veterinary Technician Student Externship Program offers a hands-on, immersive experience in emergency medicine alongside our credentialed emergency veterinary technicians.
You won't just observe-you'll engage. You'll get close to the action, ask questions, try new techniques, and explore everything that excites you about life in the ER. From patient triage to diagnostics to inpatient care, you'll gain exposure to what emergency medicine is really like-and explore whether it's the future you want to chase. WHAT YOU'LL DO
Learn from the top emergency veterinary professionals in the business.
Pair up with an emergency credentialed veterinary technician for real-time mentoring and on-the-floor learning
Shadow and assist with triage, outpatient visits, diagnostics, anesthesia, inpatient care, and more
Practice skills required by your school's proficiency checklist with mentorship and guidance

WHAT YOU NEED
Currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary technology or nursing program, or a program actively seeking accreditation; this program is only for students, not future veterinarians or veterinary assistants
Enrolled in a course that requires externship hours or skills
Able to start the program within six months of application
Current rabies vaccination or titer required
Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and work on the floor as well as ability to lift up to 25 kg on own and able to support up to 40 kg with assistance
Must be willing to work in a noisy environment with strong or unpleasant odors
Work well in a fast-paced environment with people from all backgrounds and different personality types
