(3) Current certification as para II educator by the department of education; or
(4) A minimum of 1000 hours of supervised child care experience in a licensed child care program, and knowledge of child growth and development obtained through one of the following:
a. Completion of a high school level 2-year career and technical education course in teacher education;
b. A 3 credit college course in child or human growth and development;
c. Thirty hours of training in child growth and development, granted by an accredited college or university, an authorized provider of the International Association for Continuing Education and Training or obtained through documented life experience, including experience with the same age children the associate teacher supervises, such as a family child care provider, service as a foster parent, work as a school teacher, work as a camp counselor and experience as a group leader for children in sports or other activities, such as scouts or little league, or closely related experience.

LearningWorks Afterschool (LWAS) serves academically low-performing PK-5th students in 11 elementary schools in Southern Maine. The Classroom Teacher in the LearningWorks Afterschool Program (LWAS) will be responsible for planning and implementing a 4-days/week, 6-week program focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum and enrichment activities (health/wellness, cultural, social-emotional learning).
Outside of live program time, additional time is allotted to attend key pre-program planning and staff meetings, and to participate in lesson planning and professional development. This is a part-time, fixed term School Year position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Collaborate with a team to plan STEAM curriculum and enrichment activities linked to students' prior knowledge, interests, experiences, and in alignment with the 21st Century grant goals.

What You'll Do:
Supervise and interact with Pre-K to Fourth Grade students (Lower School) or Middle School students during after-school hours (3:00 PM - 5:15 PM).
Plan and deliver engaging activities like arts and crafts, outdoor play, and themed projects that explore seasons, cultures, and more.
Provide homework help and assist students as they transition to activities such as music lessons, tutoring, or dance classes.
Partner with families by maintaining approachable and supportive communication.
Oversee and mentor Upper School student assistants, fostering their leadership skills.

Program Details:
The program follows Berwick Academy's academic year calendar, running Monday through Friday from 3:05 PM to 5:15 PM.
Activities take place in our designated Lower School and Middle School spaces and playgrounds.
Compensation includes preparation time before the program.
