University Prep was founded in 1976 by a small group of Seattle Public Schools teachers dedicated to providing the best possible education to a heterogeneous student body.
Maloney Hall, containing the Hall of Honor, a second gymnasium and the Leonard Theatre was added in 1991 coinciding with Fordham’s 150th anniversary.
In September of 2003, the Leadership Team sent a formal petition to the Shasta Union High School District asking its board members to consider the merits of a District sponsored charter school.
In November of 2003, the Shasta Union High School District’s Board met, discussed, voted and granted permission for University Preparatory School’s original eight page charter.
In the fall of 2003 the founders began meeting to discuss the possibility of creating a charter school sponsored by the Shasta Union High School District that educated 7th through 12th grade students:
The current head of school Veronica Codrington-Cazeau began to serve as head on school on July 1, 2020.
