1955

Doctor Wilbert Saunders and pharmacist Jim McCoy founded an organization called Medicine for Missions in 1955 in Seattle.

1960

The daughter of World Vision founder Bob Pierce shares a moment in World Vision history: An ABC Radio broadcast on the organization’s 10th anniversary in 1960.

1967

In the run-up to Christmas in 1967, John, Kay and Raymond held a press conference in the Shelbourne Hotel to raise awareness and funds.

1968

In 1968, a small group of people in Ireland spearheaded a major aid operation in response to famine and conflict in Biafra.

1970

In 1970 Medicine for Missions officially joined CRISTA Ministries and several years later became World Concern.

1976

The organization was renamed World Concern in 1976 after expanding work to include emergency relief in response to famines, hurricanes and earthquakes.

1979

Our World Vision ship became the first international rescue ship to provide food and medical assistance to 93 stranded refugees from Vietnam during Operation Seasweep in 1979.

2005

The Colossus of Care: World Vision has become an international force—and a partner with the poor, Tim Stafford, Christianity Today, March 2005

According to World Vision's annual report, in 2005, 87% of its funding was spent on programs, 8% on fundraising and 5% on management and general overhead.

2006

According to World Vision's 2006 Consolidated Financial Statements, around 40% of their revenue comes from private sources, including individuals, World Vision clubs in schools, corporations and foundations.

2011

World Vision has been working in the Middle East for more than 40 years and has been responding to Syria’s deadly civil war since it began in early 2011.

2013

Dominic MacSorley became CEO of Concern Worldwide in 2013 after more than 30 years working with the organisation.

2015

In late 2015, World Vision launched Every Last One (ELO) — a $1 billion capital campaign over eight years to make life, hope, and a future possible for 60 million people.

2020

In 2020 alone, World Vision supported 27 million people through 66 global emergency responses; provided 10 million people with food, and helped 3.4 million people to gain access to clean water.
