Children returned to the Jesse Lee Home in January 1966.
The Jesse Lee Home merged with Lutheran Youth Center and Anchorage Christian Children’s Home in 1970.
Through the 1970’s and 80’s, Alaska Children’s Services provided group homes, mental health services, emergency shelter, case management and adventure based programs.Strong programs were developed to assist children and teens with severe emotional and behavioral problems.
In 1988, Alaska Children’s Trust (ACT) was created with the mission of preventing child abuse and neglect throughout the state.
In 1990, The organization was accredited by the Joint Commission on Health Care Organizations and has maintained accreditation since then.
Unfortunately, ACT existed only in writing until 1996 when the Trust received its first investment – a $6 million legislative appropriation – with the help of Gov.
The first five day training session was held February 25 to March 1, 2013 at the Child Welfare Academy at the University of Alaska Anchorage.
In 2013, the organization renamed to become AK Child & Family.
In January 2014, Alaska joined 19 other states as well as Japan and Columbia in becoming certified as a ChildFirst state.
