This question is about trainer.
A trainer gets paid between $8.50 and $16.00 an hour. Trainers can be paid in a variety of ways. In some cases, it's based on a percentage of what the client pays. When averaged out across the year, the average trainer is paid around $14 an hour.
In general, a personal trainer working as an independent contractor can set their rates according to what the market will provide, upwards of $100-150 a session in a large city or as low as $40 per session in a less populated, rural area.
In other cases, trainers are employed and earn a percentage of what the client pays the club. Commission usually ranges from 30% - 60% depending on your experience, education, and credentials. If you're allowed to train clients that aren't members of the fitness facility, the percentage may drop to as low as 15% - 20%.
A health club may also pay more money for educated trainers. Some trainers can earn $1 to $5 more a session with a college degree, a specific personal training certification, or an advanced credential.
Health clubs have realized that the more education their fitness staff has, and have designed pay scales to recruit and retain trainers who take their careers and continuing education seriously.
