What does an entry-level consultant do?
An entry-level consultant conducts research and analysis to support project work, assists with the development and organizing of presentations and reports, and collects and manages key project data. The exact duties of an entry-level consultant may vary depending on the company they are employed by.
Both associate consultant and junior consultant are entry-level roles at most companies. These are reserved for individuals who are fresh out of college and lack professional experience. Most entry-level consultants work in an assistant-type capacity, meaning they take care of any needs of hiring level consultants.
Entry-level consultants often report directly to and assist these professionals with their duties:
- Consultants. Consultants typically have several years of experience in their field and are considered a mid-level to senior-level employee depending on the company they work for. These professionals might work on specific projects or with particular clientele, and often report to higher level consultants for directives and guidance.
- Senior Consultants. Senior consultants usually have a professional history that includes a number of years as a consultant or expert in their field. Many have worked in their industries for 10 years or more. These professionals often take on the responsibility of managing consulting projects and overseeing teams of lower-level consultants.
- Manager/Principal Consultant. Manager and principal consultants typically have an abundance of professional experience, both in their field and as a consultant. They tend to be in charge of leading consulting teams or large-scale consulting projects. They might also be involved with client relationship management and business development.
