The career path for an IT manager includes jobs as a web developer, IT technician, and management analyst.
IT managers must have no less than a bachelor's degree in IT. Typically, this major is encompassed around computer science, information technology, or management information systems. Entering the field with only a bachelor's degree would also require an ample amount of experience. To be most marketable, a candidate should have a master's degree in business administration as well.
Management analysts are responsible for documentation, procedural information, and records management. They oversee the implementation of new policies and procedures. Management analysts also oversee onsite activities.
An IT technician is typically an entry to a mid-level position. At this level, you are responsible for installing hardware, software configuration and troubleshooting, and testing. You also have the responsibility of keeping in communication with other departments and being a support person when necessary.
Web developers take responsibility for planning and implementing websites or software. They are the programming for web applications. A web developer has an understanding and skill set with several computer languages.
