Who owns Siemens?
Siemens Corporation is a U.S. subsidiary owned by Siemens AG. Siemens was founded in 1847 by Werner Von Siemens when he had an idea to substantially improve the electric telegraph. He collaborated with precision mechanic Johann Georg Halske to manufacture his new device.
In 1853, the Russian government awarded Siemens and Halske a contract to construct a telegraph line from Warsaw to Russia's border with Prussia. After the line was built, further contracts followed, and the company opened a construction office in St. Petersburg.
By 1856, Siemens and Halske had 330 employees, and its export rate reached as high as 80%. They began tapping into new foreign markets at an early stage and expanded their portfolio.
Siemens and Halske were incorporated in 1897 and merged parts of its activities with Schuckert Co in 1903 to become Siemens-Shuckers. In 1907, Siemens had 34,324 employees and was the seventh largest company in the German empire by number of employees.
