Take-Two Interactive owns Zynga. In 2022, Take-Two Interactive officially acquired social and mobile gaming company Zynga for $12.7 billion. Zynga is known for having some of the most played games on social media, finding much popularity through Facebook games.
Zynga is an American developer running social video game services founded in 2007 by Mark Pincus, Eric Schiermeyer, Justin Waldron, Michael Luxton, Steve Schoettler, and Andrew Trader. Zynga became the Facebook app developer with the most monthly active users in April 2009, with 40 million people playing their games that month.
In 2009, Zynga acquired MyMiniLife, which built and launched FarmVille on Facebook. By August, Farmville was the first game on Facebook to reach 10 million daily active users. By 2011, they started CityVille, which quickly reached over 61 million active users.
In 2011, Zynga went public and raised $1 billion in its initial public offering. Just a few years later, Zynga began downsizing and laid off 18% of its workforce. In July 2013, Zynga hired Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment President Don Mattrick as its new CEO. A year later, founder former CEO Pincus stepped down from his role as chief product officer.
In 2022, Take-Two Interactive acquired Zynga for $12.7 billion. In 2020, Zynga had annual revenue of 1.97 billion and around 2,245 employees. The current CEO of the company is Frank Gibeau. Cofounder Pincus still remains the chairman of the board.
