This role is expected to lead construction projects and maintain positive and effective working relationships with both internal and external members of the project team including owners, designers, engineers, field operations, trade partners, program managers, and preconstruction managers. This role will run or oversee owner meetings, trade partner meetings, trade partner buyout, material procurement, jobsite safety, jobsite quality, project schedule, writing subcontracts, owner change orders, subcontractor change orders, cost forecasting, and construction document management. The Construction Project Manager provides comprehensive oversight and management of the college's capital construction projects. Risk-management and loss-prevention activities * Actively participate in and carry out activities in support of the college risk-management program in a capacity appropriate to this position. * Monitor conditions, events and circumstances present in the college operation to avoid potential torts or injuries to students, staff or the general public, and then communicate observations to the appropriate supervisor and/or risk management committee. * Maintain a working knowledge of the college's emergency procedures and how to operate emergency phone systems; including internal/external call boxes. * Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture or related field required. * Minimum seven years of progressive experience in construction management, with at least three years managing projects valued at $5 million or more. * Experience with public sector or educational institutional construction. * Higher education facilities experience highly desirable. * Professional certifications (CCM, PMP, LEED AP or PE) preferred. * Thorough knowledge of construction methods, materials and building systems. * Strong understanding of Illinois capital construction regulations and public bidding requirements. * Proficiency in construction management software and Microsoft Office Suite. * Excellent project management, organizational and problem-solving skills. * Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications and blueprints. * Knowledge of building codes, ADA requirements and safety regulations. * Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. * Strong financial acumen and budget management skills. * Strong written and verbal communication skills. * Valid Illinois driver's license * The ability to communicate successfully with clients of all ages, socio-economic status, gender or race. * Exhibits integrity and professionalism * Spanish or French proficiency preferred * General physical efforts required includes sitting, bending and reaching * Basic dexterity skills (computer work, telephone and other office equipment * Must be physically able to pack, lift, carry and transport equipment and materials as needed (20 lbs. or less) and the ability to place work orders for anything over that limit.
