A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A HOST HOME PROVIDER / CAREGIVER
As a Host Home Provider / Caregiver, you and your family have the opportunity to open your hearts and home to an adult with developmental disabilities or a brain injury. You provide care, support, and mentorship in areas of daily living, accessing community resources, and finding employment. This includes providing nutritious meals, assisting with personal hygiene, providing transportation, ensuring access to community activities, and providing supervision based on their needs. Basically, you care for them as you would any family member. You ensure that they have the freedoms and help needed to achieve their goals and live as independently as possible.
Some aspects of this caregiving position are not easily accomplished, but the relationship you build with this individual is definitely worth the effort. Acting as their advocate, you always keep their best interests in mind. You have come to see them as family and sympathize in their sorrows and rejoice in their happiness. Seeing them smile from the guidance, care, and compassion you show to them is priceless. You enjoy being able to make a difference in this caregiving position by providing the support and companionship the person you care for needs to thrive. In most cases, ACS provides access to training and additional staff and respite supports depending on the need. Many of the individuals served also attend a day program or are employed during the day.

The Residential Counselor at Adult Residential Recovery provides milieu management, psychoeducation groups and ensures safety of individuals in a substance use residential and inpatient program. This is an on call (as needed) position that does not include benefits.
Essential Duties:
* Provides milieu management, guidance, safety, stability, and direction to clients in early recovery from a trauma-informed lens.
* Maintains acceptable attendance and punctuality and is consistently at work on time.
* Interacts with client population to provide guidance, safety, stability, and direction including de-escalating potentially dangerous situations.
* Performs accurate and timely documentation at all times, including but not limited to admissions, shift notes, Per Diem notes, discharges, inventories and screening of clients' personal belongings, individual and group sessions, Medication Occurrences (MOR), and Adverse Incident Reports (AIR).
* Monitors and documents client's vital signs, physical condition and behavior, as needed. Must be able to administer blood pressure assessments, utilizing blood pressure cuffs, when Nurse is not available.
* Assists with the planning, conducting and supervision of patient activities, including community meetings, groups, external meetings on-site, family/friend visitation, recreational activities, and life skills.
* Monitors Breath Alcohol (BA) tests as needed and document appropriately.
* Administers medications to clients per QMAP standards.
* Assist in conducting Random Urine Drug Testing.
* Facilitate or co-facilitate psychoeducation groups.
* Assists team in the coordination of treatment referrals for clients motivated to seek on-going treatment following discharge.
* Assign and monitor clients completing residential unit chores, including main areas, hallways, bedrooms and bathrooms.
* Collaborate with kitchen staff regarding meals and snacks.
* Practices OSHA safety standards and disposes of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
* May assist in transporting admitted clients to hospitals, aftercare or other approved services as directed by the Shift Coordinator or Program Coordinator. Individual may be exposed adverse weather conditions during loading and unloading passengers.
* Effectively responds to the client's needs and problems, initiates and maintains positive interactions, timely response to phone calls, email and other requests.

All Animal Services employees work in the animal shelter where temperamental and dangerous animals are housed, and should expect to come into contact with animals that may bite, kick, or scratch on a regular basis. Employees are regularly exposed to animals that may be diseased, as well as fur, pet dander, and zoonotic diseases. Reports to the Recreation Supervisor-Programs and Seniors as needed regarding programs, activities, special events, supplies, or any equipment with problems or in need of repair.
Understanding of the development needs of youth. Ability to observe camp behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.
Skill in appropriately supervising and directing school-aged children in an unstructured setting.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSURE
Required:
Must be 16 years of age or older; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Must set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, personal responsibility, punctuality and sportsmanship. Positive ”can do” attitude.
Must demonstrate ability to work with children, and must meet the following qualifications:
Complete the Department-approved course in injury prevention; and
Complete the Department-approved course in playground safety for School-Aged Child Care Centers.
Must have current CPR/First Aid/Universal Precautions Certification, and Medication Administration Training prior to start date.
Preferred:
Previous experience working with children, ideally in a camp setting.
Bilingual in English and Spanish
Experience in public/municipal sector.
