Overview: The supports provided facilitate the community engagement, independent living and employment needs of individuals with intellectual & developmental disabilities. Each Direct Support Professional (DSP) works one on one or with a small group of program members each day. Each Direct Support Professional (DSP) will engage individuals in their home, employment settings, or community outings, as well as a variety of classes led by colleagues, including art, music, reading & writing skills, yoga, and other interests & goals set by the individuals themselves on a yearly basis. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide instructional support while assisting members with the implementation of their yearly Individual Service Agreement/Person-Centered Plan goals and encouraging independence. Promote quality community connections for members while seeking opportunities in recreational, social, and vocational activities. Assure safety of members at all times. Timely completion of all required paperwork, i.e., daily notes, mileage logs, timesheets, progress notes, and incident reports. Provide transportation for members in the community using your personal vehicle. (Mileage is reimbursed) Be a positive role model with strong advocacy toward member rights and choice. Attend and participate in all required meetings including Individual Service Agreement/Person-Centered Plan meetings as an integral member of the team. Work with individuals who may display mal-adaptive/assaultive behaviors. Exposure to bodily fluids - noting that Great Bay Services is taking precautions around the COVID-19 pandemic. Lifting, bending, sitting, walking, running, stooping, carrying objects and other physical movements. Work in various seasonal weather conditions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Hold a valid driver's license and valid vehicle inspection sticker. Carry mandatory auto insurance of no less than 100K/300K. Qualifications: The successful candidate for this role shall have the following qualifications: Graduate of high school or recipient of GED certificate. Compassion for those with differences, and an interest in supporting individuals in achieving their goals. Patience. Creativity. First Aid & CPR certification training will be provided to candidates without it. DSP certification training will be provided to candidates without it. He-M 1201 Administration of Medications in Developmental Services Programs training will be provided to candidates without it. Other: The successful candidate will be subject to background checks, including driving & criminal. A valid driver's license, evidence of current vehicle registration, inspection and insurance is also required. Duties include supporting consumers with goals established in their person-centered plans (PCP), community inclusion for the consumer, documenting events and activities that occur throughout the day with the consumer through the use of several State of Maine and proprietary forms, and in some instances personal care. Must have COVID 19 Vaccination with copy of card provided at time of interview. Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Consumer Care The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will support consumers at home and in the community with activities of daily living (ADL). DSPs should know each member's PCP goals and work actively to achieve or work towards those goals on a regular basis. DSPs need to communicate with their supervisors if they are going into the community and immediately notify the Program Supervisor or Team Lead if there is a change in plans. Every change of plan should be approved by the Program Supervisor or Team Lead. Assure consumers access the community daily. Provide personal care as needed, including bathing, helping to go to the bathroom, changing adult diapers, etc. Documentation Therap documentation done every hour. Behavioral/ Minor incident documentation. All daily logs must be completed fully for the shift the DSP worked. Daily reports on behaviors and minor incidents that occurred must be documented and filed in the electronic records. All Reportable Events should be communicated immediately within the hour of their occurrence to the Program Supervisor or Team Lead. Medications and Medical DSPs will ensure consumers are on time for all medical appointments. DSPs will verify with Program Supervisors or Team Leads that all Mainecare funded appointments are entered into Therap beforehand. A Physician order form must be filled out for all appointments and filed appropriately in the medication book. DSPs will follow all treatment plans (Positive support plan, behavioral management plan, etc) while at home and in the community. Program Administration Money Management. Activity money should only be spent on activities for the consumer. No activity money should be spent for the benefit of the DSP. Receipts are required for all uses of activity money and should be turned into the Program Supervisor. Cleanliness. The consumers' home (including consumers' rooms) should be cleaned every day, dishes should be washed after every meal, consumers should always have clean, appropriate clothing available. Assure at all times that there is a great environment for your consumer. Report all damages and house maintenance issues immediately to the Program Supervisor or Team Lead. Fire Drills. DSPs will help conduct fire drills with consumers, twice a month. Mileage reimbursement staff paperwork. All mileage reimbursement requests for the month are due no later than the first Monday of the following month. Failure to do so may result in not being reimbursed for mileage. We are looking for caring, self-motivated individuals to fill our Direct Support Professional (DSP) positions. DSP's provide individualized, high quality care in safe and healthy environments. As a DSP with Northeast Residential Services, you are part of a team providing 24/7 support and supervision to adults with developmental disabilities and Autism in their homes. Your efforts enable them to live independent, meaningful, and productive lives. Following individualized protocols, you will assist residents with community integration, activities of daily living, and developing independent living skills. No experience required! We provide you with the necessary training to ensure your success as a Direct Support Professional here at Northeast Residential Services, and all initial and continued training hours are paid at your normal daily rate. Direct Support Professional (DSP) Responsibilities Include: Establishing a caring rapport and safe environment. Interactive engagement with supported individuals (hobbies and other interests) Transporting to medical appointments, paid or volunteer commitments, shopping, and other community outings. Following individual service plans as well as behavioral, medical, and other support protocols. Supporting or performing basic housekeeping duties Assisting daily hygiene, personal care, and grooming as necessary Essential Job Requirements: Valid driver's license and clean driving record Ability to read, write and communicate proficiently in the English Language Ability to lift/push/pull 50lbs. Ability to work on holidays and during inclement weather. Proof of Flu, measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella vaccinations.
