The successful candidate will play a vital role in facilitating communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and hearing individuals in educational settings. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language systems, and vice versa, to facilitate communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and hearing individuals. Provide sign language interpretation services during classroom instruction, lectures, meetings, assemblies, and other school activities to ensure equal access to information for deaf or hard of hearing students. Adapt sign language interpretation to match the language proficiency, communication preferences, and cultural background of students and other participants. Serve as a cultural liaison and advocate for deaf or hard of hearing students, promoting awareness and understanding of deaf culture and fostering inclusivity in the school community. Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and parents to support the academic and social-emotional development of deaf or hard of hearing students and facilitate their participation in educational programs and extracurricular activities. Qualifications Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpretation, Deaf Studies, Education, or related field. Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification) or eligibility for certification. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language systems. Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational settings, preferably with deaf or hard of hearing students. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey spoken and signed messages in a variety of contexts. Knowledge of deaf culture, communication strategies, and accommodations for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in challenging or sensitive situations. Position Overview: We are currently seeking a Sign Language Interpreter to join our dynamic team at E-Therapy. The successful candidate will play a vital role in facilitating communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and hearing individuals in educational settings. Responsibilities Key Responsibilities: Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language systems, and vice versa, to facilitate communication between deaf or hard of hearing students and hearing individuals. Provide sign language interpretation services during classroom instruction, lectures, meetings, assemblies, and other school activities to ensure equal access to information for deaf or hard of hearing students. Adapt sign language interpretation to match the language proficiency, communication preferences, and cultural background of students and other participants. Serve as a cultural liaison and advocate for deaf or hard of hearing students, promoting awareness and understanding of deaf culture and fostering inclusivity in the school community. Collaborate with teachers, school staff, and parents to support the academic and social-emotional development of deaf or hard of hearing students and facilitate their participation in educational programs and extracurricular activities. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines for sign language interpretation. Stay current on developments in sign language interpretation, deaf culture, and accessibility technology to enhance skills and knowledge in the field. Qualifications Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Sign Language Interpretation, Deaf Studies, Education, or related field. Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification) or eligibility for certification. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or other sign language systems. Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in educational settings, preferably with deaf or hard of hearing students. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey spoken and signed messages in a variety of contexts. Knowledge of deaf culture, communication strategies, and accommodations for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in challenging or sensitive situations. Familiarity with assistive technology and accessibility resources for deaf or hard of hearing individuals (preferred).
