    OVERALL PURPOSE OF JOB: This position, under the direction of the appropriate physician, is responsible for performing ultrasound including GYN and Breast procedures. This position is responsible for producing quality images using independent judgement on patients from pre-natal to geriatric. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB: (other duties may be assigned) Obtain pertinent clinical history of patient. KEY MEASURES: Check for written physician order and ensure appropriateness of the examination. Document diagnosis to aid the physician interpretation and billing department after each procedure. Determine that the patient is properly prepped for the examination and check the patient for allergies. Document history from patient on worksheet. Operate the ultrasound equipment as indicated KEY MEASURES: Select transducer and technical factors that provide the highest quality image. Perform GYN and Breast ultrasound examinations per protocols. Maintain ultrasound competency. KEY MEASURES: Acquire 25 continuing medical education credits every three years. Read updated ultrasound journal articles. Discuss new advances in ultrasound techniques with physicians. Complete quarterly maintenance of certification quizzes for each registry. Perform departmental quality improvement. KEY MEASURES: Perform quality assurance checks on the ultrasound machines daily and monthly. Improve performance by comparing ultrasound findings to other test results and standards. Practice sterile techniques and assist the physician during specialized procedures. KEY MEASURES: Assist physicians with biopsies, aspirations, and procedures done in the office and in operating room. Ensure that consent is signed if required. Properly disinfect scanning probes including transvaginal probes before each procedure. Follow American College of Radiology and Medicare regulations. KEY MEASURES: Change ultrasound policies and protocols as needed. Maintain currency with new directives. Arrange for service and maintain equipment as needed. KEY MEASURES: Order all supplies necessary to perform the essential job functions. Arrange for service and preventative maintenance of equipment. Scan patients and report results to physicians in a timely manner. KEY MEASURES: Accommodate walk-in and add-ons as needed and requested. Arrange for the appropriate radiologist to dictate studies. PACS KEY MEASURES: Charge each exam in Expanse when completed. Select correct patient on worklist. Scan in worksheet, physician's order and any outside imaging reports into PACS. Document in exam indications why the scan is being done. Dicom images. Put exam online for radiologist to dictate. MENTAL/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF JOB: This position typically requires: The ability to manage multiple projects/tasks, provide close attention to detail, work closely with others, and maintain much record-keeping/routine paperwork. The ability to constantly stand, balance, repeatedly bend, use repetitive finger movement, withstand repetitive twisting or pressure involving wrists or hands, use rapid mental/muscular coordination simultaneously, communicate orally, hear conversation, use specific visual requirements, use depth perception and use of color vision is also typically required. The ability to frequently walk and sit and to occasionally lift between 10 and 65 pounds, push an estimated weight of 200 pounds, apply five to 25 pounds of force to move equipment utilized in the department, pull an estimated weight of 200 pounds, climb stairs, stoop and reach is also typically required. Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Training/License/Certification: ARDMS registry eligible, required within one year of hire date. CPR certification. Work Experience: Two years related experience and/or training preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, or technical procedures. Ability to write reports and general correspondence. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form. Effective written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), Department of Health Protection , Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) guidelines and CMS standards. Knowledge of Medicare and other insurance reimbursement requirements. Knowledge of the physics and principles of ultrasound and how they apply to image quality. Knowledge of scanning techniques. Knowledge of normal and abnormal anatomy.

The incumbent in this role works directly with patients and their families, doctors and other medical personnel in a dynamic and professional environment to provide the highest level of quality healthcare to all patients.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs diagnostic procedures applying prescribed and proper methods of ultrasound techniques. Generates and produce diagnostic imaging using two-dimensional imaging, spectral and color flow Doppler as well as any other available imaging techniques. Echocardiography/Cardiac Ultrasound Vascular Ultrasound General Ultrasound Selects proper transducer and adjustment of equipment according to the needs required for proper diagnostic testing (subject organ(s) to be examined, depth of field, etc.) along with other requirements for proper and productive testing. Explains the procedures to patients and address their concerns. Keys test data and patient information into computer to maintain record of test results. Generates detailed preliminary reports of findings. Communicates STAT findings as detailed in organizational processes. Consents patients as needed and ensures documents are transferred to patient's medical records. Assists physician with ultrasound guided biopsies and/or invasive procedures. Maintains equipment according to manufacturer's requirements and industry standards, at least once a month. Monitors, records and communicates as appropriate the utilization of computerized documentation systems. Utilizes knowledge of age specific needs of patient in performance of duties and responsibilities. Influences and create SOPs for Ultrasound best practices. Provides a safe environment for administering contrast material. Assists with transporting patients to and from room. Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required. Travels to different office locations as needed. Other duties as assigned and modified at manager's discretion.
