OBJECTIVE The Research Associate 1 will oversee research projects within the lab, providing scientific oversight, guidance to lab members, and lab management in the absence of the principal investigator. The Research Associate will design and plan projects, oversee collaborations, oversee/supervise staff and students, and fully execute research projects. The Research Associate 1 will utilize a multitude of techniques such as cell culture, molecular biology, histology/microscopy, and animal studies. The Research Associate will keep the PI informed of progress of research projects and provide recommendations on experimental design and project plans. The Research Associate will independently prepare manuscripts. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. Independently and with the principal investigator, design, plan, and execute research projects. Perform analysis of cell culture and in vivo experiments, using techniques, but not limited to gene expression analysis, rodent surgeries/ cell and gene delivery, histology/microscopy, stem cell generation and differentiation. Maintain accurate records of data and provide findings and recommendations to the PI based on analysis (45%). 2. Independently author research projects. Assemble data and make publication-quality figures from analyzed data. With the highest level of integrity and responsible conduct of research, participate in writing manuscripts as a first author and co-author for discoveries from research performed in the lab, together with the PI and other lab members (10%). 3. With the principal investigator, establish goals and objectives for the efficient and timely completion of projects. Meet regularly with the principal investigator to review and set priorities, staff/student-related issues, and future research staff and planning. Provide scientific oversight of all research projects, including data collection and maintenance. Establish and manage the day-to-day priorities of the research staff. Supervise and mentor research assistants and technicians. Supervise Coordinate experiments performed by other lab members, ensuring adequate resources, assisting with experimental design and analysis. Oversee progress of the research projects and provide regular progress reports to the PI; and provide input and recommendation to principal investigator regarding significant developments in research projects. Ensure the PI is informed about the results of lab members, and ensure the PI's experimental strategy is explored by lab members and through independent experiments by the Research Associate (10%). 4. Present data and findings at laboratory meetings and scientific meetings, seminars, etc. Prepare manuscripts, and contribute preliminary data for grant proposals (10%). 5. Mentor and train lab staff and graduate students; oversee research work and ensure projects are being completed according to the research plan. This will involve teaching other members of the lab techniques and scientific discovery methods, including students and post-docs. Assist and teach both established and new research techniques to other lab members to facilitate their experiments. Coordinate trainings for lab members with EHS and others as needed (10%). 6. May Supervise research assistants and technicians. Supervise the research and technical work performed by other lab members, ensuring proper lab procedures are followed, and their safety, and ensuring adequate resources are provided for lab work (10%). NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 1. QUALIFICATIONS Experience: Minimum of 1 to 5 years of related postdoctoral experience required. Experience in the field of biological sciences, molecular and cell biology preferred. Position Summary The position will require a minimum of 40+ hours per week during our peak season. New Field Biologists will be provided on-the-job training for the needed skills and continuing education opportunities. Responsibilities include managing customer's aquatic resources through regularly scheduled seasonal visits. Additional practices may include aquatic applications, water quality enhancement, aeration, etc. Field Biologists engage in thorough data entry and processing, providing detailed information on aquatic management. This role will analyze customers' needs and provide technical support for products sold, as well as engage in problem solving by working with industry partners and developing solutions for customer projects and requests. This role may also be responsible for seasonal installation and removal of pond aeration equipment, as well as maintenance of fleet vehicles and application equipment. Essential Duties This position will focus heavily on Commercial Aquatic Applications within our pond management department. Develop and initiate management plans for clients. Assessment of clients' lake and/or pond with the ability to initiate the appropriate management protocol. Water and sediment sampling. Aquatic plant management and identification. Installation of aeration systems, and decorative fountains. Qualifications Associate's Degree or higher in Biology, Water Resources, Fisheries related course study, or equivalent work experience. Must be well organized, highly motivated, and willing to work well with a team of professionals. Possess a current driver's license with a clean driving record. Ability to drive combination truck/trailer non-CDL capacity and operate motor vehicles for periods of time. Special Conditions of Employment Need to obtain an Applicators License within 30 days of employment. We will provide training materials to the successful applicant. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up-to 50 lbs. Bend at waist and/or knees and lift arms at/over shoulder. Ability to work extended hours in all weather conditions. Job Description POSITION OBJECTIVE Working under moderate supervision, perform research work in a neuroscience lab studying molecular mechanisms of synapse formation. The Research Assistant 1 will perform immuno-fluorescence-based histological experiments, collect images, quantify the results with Arivis software, and perform general lab maintenance. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Conduct analysis of samples by quantifying imaging data obtained from immunofluorescence-based histological experiments. Using Arivis software, the individual evaluates fluorescence intensity and other relevant parameters to ensure accurate interpretation of experimental results. This analysis supports ongoing research projects aimed at understanding synapse formation at the molecular level. (45%) * Perform research work in medical and related technical areas involving the use of lab/research skills, this includes executing immunofluorescence-based histological experiments, utilizing standard molecular biology, microscopy, and histology techniques to collect and analyze data. The research assistant will use Zeiss confocal and epi-fluorescence microscopes to capture high-quality images and applying Arivis software for quantitative analysis. (20%) * Record results for a particular experiment or closely related series of experiments The Research Assistant records results for histological experiments by documenting observations and measurements in an organized manner. Data collected from imaging sessions using Zeiss Confocal & epi-fluorescence microscopes is systematically logged and stored in designated lab folders. The individual ensures that all experimental outcomes are accurately captured for future reference and analysis. (10%) * Maintain records of experiments. Organize raw data and update lab-related data folders. This includes using software tools such as Prism for statistical analysis, Excel for data management, and Word for preparing reports. Proper record-keeping ensures reproducibility and compliance with laboratory standards. (10%) * Maintain test equipment utilized in experiments and perform routine lab maintenance, including cleaning equipment and labware, and disposing of biohazardous waste. (10%) * Order laboratory supplies as needed, to support ongoing research activities. This includes monitoring inventory levels, identifying required reagents and consumables, and coordinating with vendors to ensure timely delivery. Maintaining adequate stock of essential materials is critical for uninterrupted experimental workflows. (5%) NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Perform other duties as assigned.
