    Position Title: Security Guard FTE: .80 (30 hrs./week). This position has the option to be 1.0 FTE (40 hrs./week) Department: Security Reports To: Security Supervisor FLSA: Non-Exempt This position promotes and supports the learning experience of Marian University students by, safeguarding the well-being of people and property within the defined campus area which includes, patrolling the grounds, monitoring for suspicious activity, responding to emergencies, enforcing rules and regulations and maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, faculty, and staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Patrols assigned area on foot, in assigned motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security. Monitors surveillance systems and reports suspicious behavior; patrols and monitors assigned parking areas and/or parking garages to provide public security and assistance. * Monitor physical safety of campus facilities including athletic fields by securing buildings and property for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activity. * Enforces Marian University Code of Conduct for a safe environment. * Provides escort services for students, visitors, staff, and faculty, as necessary provides other public assistance, such as lockout services, and routine information. * Watches for and report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; contacts emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required. * Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations including but not limited to fire alarms, medical incidents, criminal activity, natural disasters, and facility evacuations, in accordance with established protocols and safety procedures. * Provide support at the scene of emergency situations with emergency personnel assistance by providing direction and securing the area. * Remains alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approaches suspicious persons and/or notifies police as appropriate; may confront and/or detain violators, as required, until police arrive. * Performs checks of fire panels, mechanical rooms, fire extinguishers, AED units, cameras and other devices to ensure proper functioning. * Maintains security controls for issued University keys; safeguards and controls issue University equipment. * Prepares routine, standardized reports. * Issue parking citations as appropriate. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: * Performs other work-related duties as assigned. - 5% EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and SKILLS REQUIRED: * High school diploma or equivalent. * At least one year of prior work experience in security or a related field. * Ability to pass background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws. * Possess a valid driver's license and must be able to pass a motor vehicle background per Marian University's approved driver's requirements. * Effective communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. * Ability to remain calm and make sensible and rational decisions under pressure. * Ability to follow written and verbal instructions quickly and accurately. Assists team members, patients and visitors by providing information, directions, and physical help. Ensures traffic control, monitors conduct of visitors on premises, and confronts unauthorized persons for questioning. Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence. Responds to service calls, such as combative or threatening patients or visitors and team member incidents. Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation. Performs key responsibilities to plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats. Responds immediately to emergency and crisis situations; physically intervenes in accordance with training to situations that have a potential for injury. Investigates incidents that occur on Advocate Aurora property and completes timely and accurate reports. Addresses and escalates complaints to the appropriate leader and provides supporting documentation. Performs liaison rounding duties to cultivate close partnerships with all department and units. Delivers security awareness education to team members to leverage their assistance in the overall security of the site. Liaisons with state and local law enforcement and first responder agencies. Coordinates, briefs, and monitors every law enforcement prisoner patient guard to ensure policy compliance and prevent unsafe practices. May serve as a precept for newly hired officers, providing feedback and assisting in maintaining competencies for all officers. Maintains current Department training standards in radio communications, verbal de-escalation, stabilization, CPR, application of clinical restraints, conducted energy weapon (Taser), to include training on any/all department-issued equipment and/or requirements identified in the Annual Training Plan.” Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required: Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ)., This is needed to carry a taser at work and A valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles, and Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days of hire.” Education Required: High School Graduate. Experience Required: Typically requires 1 year of experience in a security, related public safety, or customer service area that includes experiences in responding to emergent situations and identifying and resolving issues that pose a potential risk to patients, visitors, staff and/or property. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) issued by the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) must be obtained on a one-time basis within two years of appointment to this role.
