Segra is searching for a dynamic and experienced Field Service Engineer to work within our Richmond, VA market. Based on the manager's evaluation of candidate experience and competency, we are open to hiring for this role at various levels. The Field Service Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the network, including but not limited to equipment installation & commissioning, circuit/node turn-up & testing, customer premise equipment, (Ethernet Network Interface Devices, Routers, Data Switches, premise Firewalls, IAD's, Hosted phones, ONT's, preventive maintenance, and testing/troubleshooting associated with transport infrastructure, switching infrastructure and IP/Data networks. Able to understand and operate advanced industry test sets, DS1-100G, OTDR and fiber scopes. Knowledgeable and skilled with DC power to support tertiary power applications. Work independently with limited supervision. Assumes all routine tasks for major projects and is periodically called upon to make routine decisions. Performs sewer line cleaning for the City sewers, responding to emergency sewer stoppages at citizen's properties. Knowledge: * Knowledge of equipment used in assigned unit * Knowledge of work methods and techniques * Must have knowledge of traffic safety, as most work will be performed in the public right-of-way. Skills: * Skill in driving vehicles and operating equipment. * Basic computer skills Abilities: * Requires the ability to lift and move heavy objects, i.e. removing and replacing manhole lids, removing and connecting pipe sections to and from the Vactor suction line. * The ability to work independently and as a team with limited supervision. * Must be able to communicate problems as maintenance is performed. Other requirements: * Must be available to work on-call on a rotating basis, to respond to emergencies such as sewer stoppages and or minor repairs after regular work hours. Supplemental Information Work Environment: * Worker is exposed to outdoor weather conditions, extreme noise, odors, heights, dust, fumes, and hazardous materials such as oil, coolants, gasoline, hydraulic fluid, and raw sewage. Essential Physical Activities: * Stooping, crouching, walking, pulling, lifting, grasping, hearing, seeing up close, seeing far away, kneeling, reaching, pushing, talking, standing, finger movement, repetitive motions, depth perception. * If job requires frequent lifting, typical weight handled: up to 75lbs.
