Job Overview
Under general supervision, this position provides accurate interpretation for patient/families who have Limited English Proficiency (LEP). This position interprets the spoken language and culture between two or more individuals from English to the target language and back into English again to ensure accurate cross-language communication in a medical environment. May be required to translate written documents from English into the target language or from the target language into English. Acts as culture broker to identify when cultural differences are leading to a misunderstanding on the part of either the provider or patient. Language services are performed in designated areas according to the policies, procedures, philosophy, and objectives of the department and hospital. Works cooperatively within department and other services to create a system of quality health care.

7. May be required to take on-call requests to be available for emergencies at night and on weekends.
8. Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment
9. Adhere to applicable policies, procedures as they pertain to patient/client care and to applicable personnel qualifications.
10. Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of what to report to the CEO or Chief Compliance Officer when concerns of corporate compliance arise.
11. Ensures compliance within guidelines set forth by regulatory agencies (DPH, ERISA etc.) and demonstrates compliance with Home Health Foundation policies and procedures.
12. Practices confidentiality principles set by the agency and federal HIPAA/HITECH guidelines.

Physical Requirements:
1. Prolonged, extensive, or regularly standing/walking.

Prepare for classes by reviewing instructional materials, lesson plans, and relevant subject vocabulary.

We currently have a need for Onsite Contract Interpreters in the Providence, RI area who have a sincere desire to use their language skills to help people and are passionate about what they do.
Contract Responsibilities:
Provides consecutive in person interpretation.
Follows interpreter protocols and procedures as required by Propio L.S. clients.
Follows all Propio L.S. policies and procedures related to information confidentiality and interpreter ethics.
Maintains strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, GLBA and/or regulatory requirements or policies and standards.
Establishes and maintains quality service and positive interaction with all patients, customers, visitors, health care providers, and clinical employees.
Continuously improves vocabulary and specialized subject matter knowledge, as required for various clients, such as medical, legal, social services, etc.
Requirements:
Submission of updated Resume in English at time of Application.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
High school diploma or GED equivalent
Intermediate level computer skills
Access to reliable transportation
Ability to provide documentation of updated vaccinations to include but not limited to (dependent of location, federal and local regulations and business policies for healthcare and others): TB, MMR, Varicella, Hep B (or declination), TDAP and Seasonal Influenza (Flu) and Covid
Successful completion of a drug test and Background Check & Security Screen.
A signed commitment to confidentiality, adherence to ethics, and HIPAA compliance.
1+ years of interpreting experience.

Position Summary:
As a Spanish Medical Interpreter, you will provide essential language interpretation services to patients and staff at our Health Center, ensuring clear communication in at least two languages. You will play a key role in enhancing the quality of care for patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP) by delivering accurate and culturally sensitive interpretation services.
Key Responsibilities:
Adhere to the Code of Ethics for interpreters, ensuring patient confidentiality, direct verbatim interpretation, and professional conduct.
After training, proficiently manage on-call staff messaging functions in Epic for patients with LEP.
Respond to incoming calls from the Interpreter Services Line, handling last-minute requests from various departments.
Provide interpretation services for a diverse patient population, including pediatric and geriatric patients, over the phone as needed.
Identify and address issues to ensure the effective delivery of interpreter services in patient care areas.
Qualifications:
Completion of a medical interpreter certification program is required.
1-2 years of Spanish interpreting experience in a medical setting within the United States.
Proficiency in verbal and written communication in at least two languages.
Ability to deliver culturally appropriate interpretation across various modes.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
Knowledge of patient rights and confidentiality.
Computer skills are preferred.
