Surescripts company history timeline

2001

In 2008, these competing organizations officially formed the alliance known as Surescripts, delivering comprehensive patient information to the point of care. It all started in 2001 when pharmacy associations came together to form SureScript Systems, enabling e-prescribing as a replacement for paper prescriptions.

2008

In 2008, these competing organizations officially formed the alliance known as Surescripts, delivering comprehensive patient information to the point of care.

Although combining Surescripts and RxHub made immediate sense by creating a shared infrastructure which would boost the number of electronic prescriptions and reduce medication errors, it took until 2008 for pharmacies and PBMs to come together under Surescripts.

2009

The 2009 HITECH Act which subsidizes the purchase of electronic health records also propelled demand for e-prescribing.
