Watts Healthcare company history timeline

1967

Watts Health Center, opened its doors in October of 1967.

1969

1969: House of Uhuru (HOU) opens

1970

Watts suffered further in the 1970′s as gangs gained strength and raised the level of violence in the neighborhood.

1979

Its flagship facility, the Watts Health Center, is a 69,000 square foot building which opened in 1979 in the community of Watts, adjacent to several large public housing projects.

1982

1982: UHP Health Plan is established

1987

1987: Jordan Wellness Center (JWC) opens

1988

Twilight and Twelve photos from the 1988 Peace Talks press conference were printed on the front pages of regional and local newspapers and their interviews with TV news crews were on every news channel.

1992

Jim Brown continues to contribute to the decrease in gang related deaths in Watts and greater South Los Angeles area since 1992.

After four years of peace talks the Peace Treaty would be drafted and then agreed to the day before the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

1997

1997: Crenshaw Community Health Center (CCHC) opens

2014

2014: Locke Wellness Center (LWC) opens, and the organization is also recognized as a Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH)

2016

2016: 9901 Wellness Center opens and Doctor Roderick Seamster was appointed as the fourth President and CEO

2017

2017: Jefferson Crenshaw Health Center (JCHC) opens and the organization achieved the highest-level NCQA recognition (Level 3) for PCMH.

2019

As of 2019, Watts Health Center houses 56 examination rooms.

2020

In 2020, WHCC served a relatively young patient population with 50 percent ages 34 years and under.
