This question is about Cerner.
Yes, Cerner drug tests. Cerner has a strict no-drug policy that includes a pre-employment drug test for all new hires as part of the onboarding process. Moreover, Cerner has the right to drug test any employee randomly or in the case of a workplace accident. From our research, however, we found very few reports from current or former employees who were asked to take a drug test.
Cerner mandates pre-emplotyment drug testing regardless of whether you are working in clinical or if you are a software developer or engineer. As far as technology positions go, Cerner is unusual for its umbrella drug testing policy.
Most technology companies do not drug test their engineers and programmers. While a good majority of the company does work in medical-related positions where it is normal to drug test. Those working in programing or engineering find having to take a drug test to be a major inconvenience. However, all new hires sign an employment agreement stating they are willing to take a pre-employment drug test, as well as as the right to be randomly drug tested while at work.
Cerner uses a 10-panel drug test. The screening used either blood or urine and it tests for the following drugs:
Amphetamines
Cannabis
Cocaine
Opiates
Phencyclidine
Barbiturates
Benzodiazepines
Methaqualone
Methadone
Propoxyphene
Alcohol
Cerner is also a smoke-free workplace. While employees are not tested for tobacco during the drug screening, Cerner does ask whether you smoke for insurance purposes. Employees are also not allowed to use tobacco or vaping products unless outside of the building in a designated smoking area. Cerner's goal, however, is to become a smoke-free workplace by 2025, which means that they are removing the smoking sections at all of their office locations.
