How do you write an editor job on a resume?

By Zippia Team - Mar. 3, 2022

You write an editor job on a resume by highlighting your writing and editing experience, as well as your accomplishments and communication skills. The resume (from the profile summary to professional experience to skills section) focuses on telling a story about your journey thus far as an editor.

It may come as no surprise to learn that as an editor being able to write clearly, effectively, and without error is a huge part of your job - consider your resume the first writing sample a potential employer has of your work. Meaning your editor's resume needs to be as polished as a book ready for publication.

The first introduction of your writing style and editing skills starts with your profile summary. The profile summary presents a challenge - in just two to four sentences (600 words or less), you need to present yourself as a candidate, show what you bring to the table, and touch on some core accomplishments and skills or career objectives.

To write a concise, informative, and compelling profile summary is not too much, unlike writing a perfect haiku. For example, "Hard-working editor with six years of experience and a proven record of increasing readership and developing skilled writers. Seeking to maximize readership at Company XYG. Winner of the Written Media Award in 2019."

In the experience section, you will need to provide between three to six of your top achievements or responsibilities in bullet points. When possible, focus on achievements over responsibility and quantify those achievements. For example, "Grew sales by 125% through improvements in writing quality and engagement with the target audience."
