Is a chief operating officer higher than a CEO?
No, a chief operating officer is not higher than a CEO. A chief executive officer (CEO) is the top manager and is responsible for the corporation's entire operations and reports directly to the chair and the board of directors.
While the chief operating officer (COO) looks after issues related to marketing, sales, production, and personnel, the CEO instead directs and sets the organization's policies, vision and goals.
Responsible for the corporation's operations, the COO is often more hands-on than the CEO. The COO looks after day-to-day activities while providing feedback to the CEO. The COO is often referred to as the senior vice president.
