What education do you need to become a marketing manager?

By Zippia Team - Oct. 12, 2021

Marketing managers usually have an educational background in marketing, business, or communications. You must understand how to increase online traffic, have a successful background in digital advertising, web analytics, and a basic understanding of computer science or marketing software.

Work experience is just as important as a bachelor's in a related field. Recent graduates will typically start with an entry-level job in marketing or advertising. It can take several years to gain enough experience to qualify for a marketing manager position in a larger company.

While working at the lower levels, employees can take on additional responsibilities that add oversight duties or lead planning sessions preparing to move up. It's important to develop stronger communication skills, problem-solving, decision-making and creativity, and collaborating with various teams.
