Greg McDonell was called as pastor of Central Presbyterian in January 1997.
2003: Center Church hosts the first covenanting service of the Greater Hartford Interfaith Coalition for Equity and Justice.
The team developed a long-range plan to engage members in serving the church, and wrote mission and vision statements, which were adopted by the Session on August 14, 2004.
2007: In its 375th anniversary year, Center Church opens its doors to the 12,000+ UCC Synod attendees as part of the UCC’s 50th anniversary.
McDonell’s retirement in October 2012, at which time, Rev.
In 2012, with the support of the Co-Pastors, Kim Rogers, who was then an Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary student serving our church as an intern, started The Central Mission, an outreach program to serve the homeless and low-income people of Austin.
The church on Leavenworth is where the Central congregations celebrated their centennial year with the theme of “Remember and Rededicate,” and also in 2012 their 125th year.
After visiting other Presbyterian Churches, it was decided in 2014 to merge with First Presbyterian Church, Omaha.
2014: Northwood begins a sandwich ministry, providing lunch once a month to an area men's homeless shelter.
Both churches approved the merger, and it became official on January 1, 2015.
