1985 - Campus Compact was founded by the presidents of Brown, Georgetown and Stanford Universities and the president of the Education Commission of the States.
1985 - Recent college graduates formed the Campus Outreach Opportunity League, known as COOL, to encourage students to serve their communities.
1992 - Bill Clinton campaigned for his first term as President and frequently talked about a program he envisioned as a sort of domestic Peace Corps.
1993 - President Bill Clinton visited the Stamp Student Union (as it was then called) to launch the Summer of Service program that was the prototype for AmeriCorps.
1993 - Community Service Programs started its first signature program, You Can Make a Difference (YCMAD), which placed students in community organizations with student leaders facilitating on-site service and reflection.
The Serve America Act reauthorizes and expands national service programs administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency created in 1993.
1995 - Community Service Programs began its work with service-learning, hiring a half-time Coordinator of Service-Learning Initiatives.
1995 - UMD begins its America Reads program as one of the 20 pilot programs in the nation.
1996 - The White House Office of Domestic Policy invited UMD President Brit Kirwan to join the College Presidents' Steering Committee for its new tutoring program, America Reads, with the goal of enabling all children to read by the end of the 3rd grade.
2000 - America Counts program begins
2003 - President Clinton returned to UMD to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of AmeriCorps at a rally in Ritchie Coliseum.
2004 - CSL sponsored the first alternative spring breaks in 4 United States cities.
2005 - Community Service-Learning merged with Leadership, forming Leadership and Community Service-Learning (LCSL).
2009 - Maryland Campus Compact was formed as the 35th state Compact.
