David L. Lawrence Convention Center company history timeline

1981

On February 7, 1981, the original $35 million ($110 million today) structure opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Mayor Richard Caliguiri, County Commissioner Tom Foerster and Governor Dick Thornburgh.

The current building replaced the former convention center of the same name that was constructed in 1981.

1999

After the Commonwealth approved funding for the redesigned center on February 3, 1999 Rafael Viñoly Architects, P.C. was chosen as the designer for the modern center on February 28, 1999.

2003

Completed in 2003, the David L. Lawrence Convention Center became the largest LEED® Gold Certified convention center.

2004

The building won the 2004 Supreme Award for structural engineering excellence from the Institution of Structural Engineers.

2017

The DLCC was awarded 86 points in the 2017 re-certification: 19 points for Sustainable Sites, 13- Water Efficiency, 23- Energy and Atmosphere, 11- Materials & Resources, 14- Indoor Environmental Quality, 6- Innovation in Operations.
