Position Summary
The Day Habilitation Specialist (Day Hab Specialist) will assist individuals with developmental disabilities to maximize their personal and vocational potential in their center and community. The Day Hab Specialist provides direct care support and assists in the implementation and documentation of each individual's program plan. Day Habilitation Specialists for designated programs may be expected to support other programs based on staffing and attendance. Floating Day Hab Specialists will be assigned based on need. The following position standards apply to both regular and floating Day Hab Specialists.
Full time schedule: Monday - Friday 7:45am - 3:30pm
Salary Range:
Day Hab Specialists I (drivers)- $17.90 to $19.90 per hour
Day Hab Specialists II (drivers)- 18.41- 20.41 per hour
Note: The rates outlined above are contingent upon being deemed eligible to drive by our insurance carrier. Should you be deemed ineligible to drive and the program is able to make a non-driver accommodation, a lower rate of pay will apply.
Position Standards:
Delivers and documents the services, supports, safeguards, behavioral documentation and activities identified by ISP/CFA and the Day Habilitation plan. Completes the monthly note and ensure it covers the individual's response to service within the seven days of the following month for assigned individuals.
Performs individual specific personal care as required, including but not limited to assistance with toileting, transferring, changing needs, handwashing and oral care. Documents any finding on appropriate forms including but not limited skin integrity, bowel and repositioning charts.
Ensures active engagement and appropriate communication with staff and individuals.
Assumes responsibility for medication administration and appropriate documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
Develops a trusting and friendly rapport with individuals served while maintaining professional boundaries.
Fulfills mandated reporter role by interrupting and reporting suspected abuse to administration immediately.
Ensures that the center is kept safe, clean and decorated in an age appropriate and comfortable manner and that is kept in good repair inside and out.
Demonstrates proficiency in all goals and skillsets outlined in the NYS DSP Core Competencies, on which performance will be evaluated.
Responsible for providing transportation to individuals receiving services driving agency vehicles with a capacity up to 14 passengers.
Ensures all required trainings and certifications are current, and seeks further support and training where needed.

Job Requirements:

Manage low- and moderate-risk intrapartum patients, including cervical examinations, labor management, fetal monitoring, counseling, and documentation.
Provide postpartum care, including assessments, patient education, discharge planning, and follow-up coordination.
Assist with triage of obstetric patients, supporting timely evaluation and disposition.
Participate in obstetric emergencies and team-based rapid responses (e.g., postpartum hemorrhage, preeclampsia/eclampsia, shoulder dystocia, neonatal resuscitation).
Perform procedures within scope, which may include artificial rupture of membranes, intrauterine pressure catheter placement, repair of minor lacerations, vaginal deliveries, and other skills as credentialed.

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) is responsible for supporting persons receiving services while promoting their personal, physical and emotional wellbeing. The primary role of the Direct Support Professional is to work alongside the people we support in order to help them to achieve their personal goals. The DSP ensures the delivery of Habilitation services, service plans or other OPWDD supports and documents and verifies daily data collection.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Adhere to all regulations, policies, procedures and protocols set forth by NY OPWDD, NY Justice Center, Centers for Medicare/Medicaid and Abbott House.
Establish positive working relationships with persons receiving services, co-workers, management and the public.
Maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with parents, guardians and other professionals.
Learn and demonstrate skills outlined in the DSP Code of Ethics and DSP Core Competencies.
Implement outlined Habilitation and Behavioral Support plans/programs and documents accordingly.
Assist with personal care of persons receiving support as needed.
Attend and successfully complete all required training in accordance with SPDD Training Policy.
Administer prescribed medications to persons receiving supports after successful completion of AMAP medication administration course. Certification must be completed prior to the end of employee's probation period Certification must be maintained in accordance to outlined protocols.
Assist individuals with planning and participating in the community activities.
Drive agency vehicles for transportation of persons receiving supports and adheres to all related vehicle operation policies.

High School diploma or equivalent required.
One-year experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred.
A valid driver's license
Completion of State and Agency mandated training
Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Represent yourself and the Agency in a professional and courteous manner
Know, understand, and continually practice the Agency's Standards of Conduct
HOURS AND TIME OF WORK
The Direct Support Professional is contracted for 40 hours a week. Additional time after some shifts may be required as he/she cannot leave the residence until a relief staff is in place.
