What will your job look like?
The Dispatcher works to direct the day-to-day route and trip operations. Assists with organizing and conducting activities to assure safe, cost-effective, on-time operating performance, tracks and reports sign-in and sign-out times, assure routes are timely, and communicate service issues to the appropriate personnel. * Assist with all phone call information and dispatching of rides
* Organize and route trips based on schedule and location to ensure optimal performance
* Provide assistance to drivers for directions to destinations
* Assist drivers and transportation providers with problems or issues relating to scheduling
* Establish and maintain effective communication with transportation providers
* Report and record all incidents to the applicable manager
* Document and report provider no shows or on-time-performance issues
* Inform transportation providers of their next-days trips and any new trips that occur
* Monitor radio, telephones and on-road provision of service for quality
* Record time of departure, destination, and expected time of return
* Provide feedback on drivers' performance
* Perform additional duties as assigned or required
What you'll need:
Experience, Education & Certifications:
* High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
* 2+ years in transportation routing, dispatching, and scheduling expertise preferred
* 1 year experience working with the applicable transit scheduling system preferred
* Knowledge of GPS and GIS systems preferred
* Possess valid authorization to work in the United States
Skills:
* Must be able to demonstrate effective use of scheduling software, two-way radio communication and data analysis skills

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of this position is to receive routine and emergency calls, prioritize calls, and dispatch personnel as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
In addition to consistent and reliable attendance, the following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Operates telephones, communication equipment, and computers associated with police, fire, and E-911 communications.
Receives, screens, and monitors routine and emergency calls; categorizes and prioritizes calls; dispatches backup units, ambulances, fire fighters, road crews, utility crews, or others as appropriate; conveys information/instructions to caller as necessary to assist until dispatched units arrive on scene; relays pre-arrival medical instructions to assist in lifesaving treatment; communicates effectively and coherently over radio channels while initiating and responding to radio communications.

Processes a variety of documentation associated with departmental operations, per established procedures and within designated timeframes; distributes documentation or retains records as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, time sheets, logs, fire run sheets, general orders, lost/found animals, or other documents.
Answers the telephone; evaluates and processes calls; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages and/or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
Performs light cleaning/housekeeping tasks associated with maintaining work areas.
Provides assistance or backup coverage to other employees or departments as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma supplemented by six months experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Job Description
The Dispatcher is responsible for the movement of vehicles as well as the ongoing relationship with United Road's internal and external carrier base. The Dispatcher utilizes United Road's proprietary system (OVISS), Central Dispatch website and other members of the United Road Team to dispatch vehicles in a timely manner. A high degree of effort is required to dispatch and manage United Road's carrier base for the success of each vehicle movement in a timely manner as well as with a profitable margin.
Responsibilities:
Review and prioritize region specific vehicles thru OVISS system for dispatching
Independently dispatch in a timely manner by using all resources available (i.e. Central Dispatch, OVISS Report Writer, Microsoft Office, etc.) ensuring to obtain the best possible margin
Manage and maintain relationships with carriers to solidify repeat carrier usage and accountability
Address any and all issues that arise during the dispatch process with manager in order to meet and/or exceed customers' expectations
Be accessible to management after normal business hours on an “as needed basis” to conduct business and service accounts/carriers
Adhere to policies and procedures by keeping pricing and other information pertaining to customer rates or carrier rates confidential
