THE POSITION
Under general supervision, receives, screens and responds to incoming emergency and non-emergency calls for police assistance. Dispatches appropriate units, and maintains necessary communication with units, during their response to calls. Performs a variety of clerical, record-keeping and general support duties related to communications activities.

Responds diplomatically and tactfully to people of diverse backgrounds, often in adverse situations, when they may be confused, upset, angry, drunk, irate, or irrational.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Uses a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) terminal and regular telephone lines to receive emergency calls from the public requesting police services. Determines the nature and location of the emergency, its priority, and dispatches police units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. Exercises considerable judgment in dispatching deployed units, emergency resources, and equipment. Maintains contacts with all units on assignment. Maintains the status and location of field units.
Monitors emergency alarm panels and city alarms. Monitors city and other camera surveillance systems. Answers non-emergency calls for assistance. Dispatches public works emergency and other "after hours" service requests.
Coordinates emergency calls and relays information and assistance requests involving other law enforcement and firefighting agencies. Provides field personnel with information relating to subjects, vehicles, and property so that they can determine appropriate action to be taken.
Trains new employees in dispatching procedures, techniques, and methods, as well as relevant department policies and regulations.
Enters, updates, and retrieves information from computerized data base networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles, and other information. Assists in the maintenance of communication equipment as required.
Performs other related work as required.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATES
License: Depending on assignment, possession of a valid California Class C driver's license may be required.
Certificate: Typing speed of 35 words per minute is desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment: works in indoor office conditions with noise of police radio; works irregular hours, including rotating shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays; and works under pressure and in potentially stressful conditions. Physical Abilities: hearing and speaking sufficient to exchange information on the telephone and police radio; close vision and the ability to adjust focus to read and operate office equipment including computer aided dispatch (CAD) system; sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time; use of hands to handle, feel or operate office equipment including CAD system; and mental capability to interpret people and situations, perform multiple concurrent tasks, and to work in highly emotional or emergency situations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Public Safety Dispatcher Trainee: A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to completion of high school, keyboarding sufficient to perform the duties of the job, and one year of experience involving public contact, computer usage, or heavy telephone traffic are required. Experience in a dispatching role is preferable.
Public Safety Dispatcher: In addition to the requirements above, one year of experience equivalent to that of a Public Safety Dispatcher Trainee with the City of Ventura OR one year 911 Dispatcher Operator experience is required.

• Assist other dispatchers by handling phone/radio overflow when necessary. Cover during lunch time and sick and/or vacation leave.
• In the event of a technician's injury or accident, have employee notify Human Resources immediately and re-schedule workflow as needed.
• Take problem/complaint calls and handle appropriately or direct to Branch Manager.
• Take calls for billing/invoice questions and direct to proper personnel.

DISPATCHER
Responds to incoming radio calls made by drivers and dispatches calls through proper channels.
SALARY RANGE: $24.30/hour - $25.80/hour
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Maintain communication with the Drivers in the field to ensure quality customer service.
Communicate with the Route Supervisor regarding Driver or Dispatch problems.
Assure that all daily activities and assignments are completed on a timely and or scheduled basis.
Work closely with Customer Service Call Center to resolve issues and ensure quality customer service.
Assist Drivers with any questions regarding service or work orders.
Responsible for dispatching calls through proper channels.
Dispatch roll-offs
Contact customers regarding problems in servicing the account.
Dispatch service calls as defined by work orders.
Update and maintain front sheets.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Handle incoming service orders, direct drivers, and resolve service issues.
Work with route managers and the service department to optimize routes.
Dispatch drivers to calls as they are received, using information on customer needs, drivers' locations and loads, and daily factors to balance cost and speed of response.
Field incoming calls from customers or the customer service department, managing pick-up or container delivery requests and ensuring same-day service.
Initiate outbound calls to customers while drivers are on-site/location, resolving pick-up and other issues.
Troubleshoots and resolves potential delivery and pick-up problems before they result in service issues.
Ensure same-day service on missed pick-ups by coordinating driver movement in the field.
Assist in determining the daily level of driver staffing to provide the best mix of responsiveness and productivity.
Identify and plan deployment for increases/decreases in route volumes, shifting resources in response to seasonal and other fluctuations.
Record and document information and distribute it to appropriate departments, including route information, driver productivity information, sales and service issues and opportunities, safety issues, and problem stops.
Ensure accuracy and thoroughness of pick-up, container delivery, service, and driver records.

Major Duties
Under general supervision, the Police Dispatcher is the lifeline to sworn personnel and other Department of Police Services (DPS) field units. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Typically requires one year of full-time, verifiable experience using a switchboard and two-way radio communication system in a law enforcement or comparable agency within the last ten years.

The Security Dispatcher is a full-time position working within the Security Command Center, under the supervision of the Building Security Manager for SoFi Stadium. The position entails working an assigned shift (Day, Evening, or Overnight).

Process and record emergency and routine calls for service.

Role Overview: The Public Safety Dispatcher performs multiple functions in the Communications Center in support of various department personnel at the University Park Campus, Health Sciences Campus, and University Parking Center. Hourly Range
The hourly rate for this position is $28.31.
