Lake County 911 Dispatch is a 911 communications center providing Law Enforcement, Fire & EMS services to the community and first responders.
We are hiring 911 Emergency Dispatchers to work all shifts within our centers.
Qualifications and Skills
A High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
Ability to sit for long periods of time
Ability to gather information from several sources at once and accurately disseminate that information to responders
Must pass a criminal background check
Must pass a typing test
Positive attitude and ability to work through rapidly unfolding situations
Desire to assist Law Enforcement, Fire, Search and Rescue, and other agencies as well as members of the public
Desire to work with modern technology with a focus on providing a fantastic customer experience
Additional testing prior to interview will be mandatory through the Lake County Job Service
HOURS/DAYS: Will work varying shifts, typically 12 hours. May include nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a full-time, union covered position.

Schedule: Full Time | Flexible Hours
Work Environment: Remote office with local and short-line dispatching (up to 550 miles), small driver group, and some yard work and vehicle delivery.
️ Responsibilities:
Daily load building, prioritization, and driver assignments
Regular driver interaction and monitoring HOS compliance
Customer service: answering calls and prioritizing requests
Inventory control and basic data entry
Responding professionally to email inquiries
Weekly inventory tracking
Outdoor yard work and occasional vehicle delivery - all weather conditions
Qualifications:
Dispatch experience preferred - but we'll train the right candidate
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Basic computer skills (file attachments, USB usage, etc.)
Strong oral and written communication - grammar matters!
Friendly and professional demeanor - especially when handling frustrated individuals
Self-motivated and task-oriented - can work independently without constant supervision

The Public Safety Dispatcher, under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, provides a safe and secure environment for all persons on premises by providing security related communication, documentation, and security systems monitoring along with security officer dispatch services.

+ Communicate and dispatch Security Officers to needed locations; monitor radio activity and coordinate with hospital operators.
+ Maintain environmental awareness and identify potential security risks; take action to prevent or suppress safety hazards.
+ Assist patients, guests, and staff by:
+ Providing general information.
+ Controlling access and checking badges/passes.
+ Inspecting packages entering or leaving the hospital.
+ Perform public service duties including:
+ Escorting individuals.
+ Assisting with vehicle or room lockouts.
+ Opening/locking doors.
+ Providing battery boosts.
+ Patrol parking areas and campus for safety hazards; document violations, hazards, and repair needs.
+ Monitor security and fire equipment (e.g., alarms, surveillance video).
+ Administer facility access control system; manage access permissions and initiate lockdowns when necessary.
+ Maintain knowledge of emergency preparedness plans; perform roof clearance assessments for helicopter arrivals and assess rooms for behavioral/suicidal risk.

+ Experience with basic computer programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
+ Ability to work nights and/or weekends as required.
+ Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
+ Regular on-site attendance during scheduled shifts.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security administration, or related field.
+ Participation in security or law enforcement through internships or volunteer programs (e.g., police reserve).
+ Experience in hospital security dispatch and/or public law enforcement dispatch.
**Physical Requirements**
+ Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs.
+ Frequent interactions with customers require employees to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately.
+ Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy.
+ Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
+ For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.
