About the Position
The Kitchen Assistant supports the Head Cook and Assistant Cook in all aspects of kitchen operations. This role helps prepare and serve meals and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dining hall.
Compensation for this position is $95 - $105 per day, with the starting rate dependent on previous employment at GSWW camps.
Camp Season 2026 will run from June 7th through August 18th, with start and end dates determined by position. Overnight camp staff will divide their summer between Camp Robbinswold (located in Lilliwaup, WA) and Camp St. Albans (located in Allyn, WA). They will begin at St. Albans for the first week of training, then transition to Robbinswold for the second week. Staff will work three one-week camper sessions at Robbinswold, take a short break, and then complete three sessions at St. Albans.

Assist with the daily operations of the camp's foodservice, including preparing food according to the menu, ensuring proper storage of food and leftovers, and completing daily cleaning and sanitation tasks

This position is responsible for preparing, assembling, and delivering meals in accordance with dietary guidelines, food safety standards, and the therapeutic needs of clients in a behavioral health setting.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and serve meals following established menus and dietary restrictions.
Safely operate kitchen equipment and maintain cleanliness in all food preparation areas.
Package and deliver meals to designated units (inpatient psychiatry and crisis stabilization).
Ensure tray line standards are met, including accurate labeling with patient name, diet, and delivery to the correct unit.

Ensure proper food storage, including date labeling and allergen separation.
Maintain accurate records (temperature logs, sanitation checklists, meal production and delivery reports, and incident documentation).
Support a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive environment for clients and staff.
Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times.
Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as assigned.
What You Bring
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior experience in foodservice, preferably in healthcare, behavioral health, or institutional settings.
Knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards (ServSafe certification preferred).
Ability to work collaboratively in a trauma-informed, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
Food Handlers permit required.
Current First Aid & CPR certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

POSITION PURPOSE

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

Job Title: Child Nutrition - Kitchen Assistant Job Number: 100-25-26 Contract: 3.0 hours /178 Days per year Salary: 25-26 PSE Contract ($19.48 - $24.77 DOE) Our District: The Sultan School District is one of the larger geographical school districts in the Puget Sound area, consisting of approximately 325 square miles. Sultan School District has approximately 2,000 students enrolled K-12. Students are currently served by two elementary schools, a middle school, a high school and an alternative high school; and the Sno-Isle Skills Center, a cooperative vocational technical school.

This position's responsibilities are to set up for serving hot meals, to serve, to clean up serving and kitchen areas, to collect money and tickets for meals, to make change, and to record and deposit money.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
* Sets up serving carts and warming ovens for serving healthy meals to provide nutrition for educational achievement.
* Fills condiment containers, sets out utensils, napkins, trays and other serving items before food arrives.
* Serves meals to students and staff, serves appropriate quantities and presents food attractively.
* Cleans and wipes down serving and meal areas between lunch periods, refills containers and serving items.
* Serves as foodservice cashier, collects meal money and tickets and makes change.
* Counts and records money and tickets, prepares bank deposits and may transport money to bank for deposit.
* Assists in unloading food, and in placing food in serving carts and oven according to proper food handling procedures.
* Cleans carts, tables and other food serving areas after meal periods; stores equipment.
* Loads dirty dishes, pans and other food preparation items to be washed.
* Washes dishes, utensils, pots and pans; cleans and wipes food preparation surfaces, dishwashers and counters.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
* Prepares list of next day's order for food and supplies.
* May transport food and dishes to and from school sites in a van as assigned; loads and unloads items from van.
* Supervises student helpers as needed; monitors and corrects behavior as necessary.
* Maintains records and files, such as lists of students on free and reduced lunch program.
* Serves as member of foodservices team of the district; performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
Mental Demands:
* Performs under strict meal deadlines.
* Required to time multiple tasks for completion in proper sequence.
* Required to anticipate quantities and order for cost-efficiency and proper storage.
* Required to accurately count and record money.
Physical Demands:
* Exposed to heat from ovens, burners and steam trays.
* Exposed to cutting and slicing equipment and machines with moving parts.

* Required to move heavy supplies and full pans of food.
* Required to correctly lift heavy objects up to 35 pounds
* Exposed to high noise levels from kitchen equipment and students at meals.
* Required to wear protective clothing.
* If assigned to transport food, exposed to traffic conditions and inclement weather.
* Required to assist students by cleaning meal spills.
Position Minimum Qualifications:
* Ability to communicate effectively with others.
* Ability to correctly lift heavy objects up to 35 pounds.
* Skill in cooking, preparing and presenting nutritious and attractive meals.
* Knowledge in proper food handling techniques.
* Knowledge in foodservice safety and sanitation.
* Knowledge in nutrition.

Education, License, Certification, Formal Training:
* High school graduation or equivalent and one year of experience in commercial/institutional food preparation.
* Experience serving food or as a cashier desirable.
* Experience working with school-aged children desirable.
* Valid Washington State Food Handler's Permit.
* Positions required to transport food require valid Washington State Driver's License.
* Completion of mandatory Safe Schools Trainings.
