Job Description
The Food Service Worker will:
Provide timely, efficient and accurate patient tray line setup and patient meal assembly.
Provide courteous and timely set-up and service in the cafeteria, at the cashier stations and for catered events.
Deliver and retrieve patient meals to and from nursing units in a safe and expedient manner.
Maintain the sanitation and cleanliness of the service ware, pots, pans, equipment and work and service areas. Operate the dish machine for service ware sanitation.
Prepare toast, salads, desserts and other food items requiring some food preparation skills according to specific directions and established quantities.
Operate cash register accurately with no over rings or shortages. Ensure that cash drawer has proper level of cash, obtaining additional change as necessary.
Refill coffee urns, juice and milk dispensers as needed and stocks cafeteria with various food and non-food items as needed including donuts, fruit, silverware, condiments, paper products and the like.
Follow safe food handling practices, maintain food items at appropriate temperatures and follow established storage practices. Sustain a sanitary work environment according to health standards and Department policies.
Assist patients as necessary in providing or making daily meal selections.
Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of SRAlab.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports directly to Food Service Supervisor.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Ability to read, understand and follow written and verbal instructions when preparing food, serving patients and staff and performing non-complex mathematical calculations at a level normally acquired through the completion of elementary school.
Approximately one to three months on-the-job experience in order to become familiar with basic food preparation techniques and learn cafeteria procedures and department policies.
Interpersonal skills necessary to courteously greet patients when delivering food trays to rooms and employees, visitors and other cafeteria patrons.
Basic analytical skills necessary to portion proper amounts of food to patient trays and stock food stations with necessary items.
Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail needed for approximately twenty percent of work time when entering customer charges, receiving money, making change, counting and weighing food items and working tray line.

The Food Aide is responsible for the overall management of the Educare Servery. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receives daily food service and weekly milk service deliveries from designated providers.
Monitors the temperature, quantity, and quality of food items received.
Ensure temperature logs are accurately completed and maintained and that all food and beverage items are properly labeled.
Reports any challenges with food service delivery to the Site Director and/or catering company directly.
Preps and distributes breakfast, lunch, and snack meals to classrooms.
Ensure the kitchen area, utensils, and equipment is clean, sanitized, and equipped for the preservation, storage, preparation and serving of food.
Maintains written inventory of food, kitchen related equipment and supplies.
Maintains records as required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
Follows appropriate breakfast, lunch and snack cycle menus provided by catering company.
Prepares orders for food and food-related supplies and places orders as required.
Assists teaching staff with food/nutrition activities by monitoring oven baking and providing sanitary equipment for food experiences.
Ensure proper observance of choking hazards and meal substitutions due to documented allergies, medical conditions, or religious observances.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED). Licensed Food Service Manager Certification.
TECHNICAL SKILLS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to read and write English proficiently. Candidates must regularly operate a word-processing system and therefore must be able to read, produce and transmit data on such a system.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Candidates must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and are frequently required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Function / Position Summary
Responsible for all duties related to the preparation and serving of student meals and snacks (daily). Adheres to the National Breakfast, Lunch, and Snack Programs guidelines and requirements in accordance with Federal, State, and Local regulations. Provides excellent customer service to all. Attend monthly Safety meeting, required trainings and in-service meetings. May be required to leave the main work site on occasion for meetings, etc.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
Responsible for the proper handling and storage of all food and supplies.
Maintains a clean and sanitary workspace, in the kitchen area.
Maintains a required system of accountability.
Prepares weekly projections to order food and supplies for menus.
Utilizes correct measuring and serving utensils to ensure accurate meal portioning as specified by district policy.
Performs and documents temperature/sanitation checks as required by law.
Ensures dishwashing is always ongoing/completed to meet sanitation expectations.
Ability to operate a cash register, make change accurately, balance and close in a timely matter (when assigned).
Exemplify leadership attitude ensuring that all meals are served in a timely manner.
Ability to work independently all positions in the kitchen.
Other duties as assigned.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Must possess a valid Certified Professional Food Manager Certification, previously known as sanitation certificate. Certificate shall be obtained by the start of the second school term of employment.
Bilingual - Spanish/English (written/verbal) preferred.
Experience / Knowledge
Experience in a commercial kitchen preferred.
Excellent customer service.
Hold a State of Illinois Food Handler card and demonstrate specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job which includes. If Certification is not current, must be able to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Minimum of one (1) years' experience cashiering, customer service, cafeteria line server or related field, preferred.
Ability to successfully complete required written documentation.
Ability to verbally communicate.
Responsible for checking and responding to work related emails in a timely manner.
Physical Demands
Ability to assist in lifting 50 lbs. with proper technique.
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must wear appropriate, clean uniforms, hair covering, and safety shoes provided.
Ability to work in very hot and very cold conditions.
Terms of Employment
This is a ten (10) month, part-time SEIU position. Salary and benefits as per the current collective bargaining agreement and approved by the Board of Education.
Must be able to adhere to all Blackout dates according to the Food and Nutrition Calendar.
Must complete all FNS and District mandated GCN tutorials, monthly safety training, and department sponsored training per USDA requirements by their due date.
May be asked to come in two days before school starts to open kitchen.
May be asked to come in one day after school ends to close kitchen.
Maintain a positive attendance record as specified in FNS Department Handbook & SEIU contract.
Attend all back to school and professional development meetings/trainings as required.
